Trivia

  • Wooper & Gastly could learn Ice Punch in Generation II despite not having arms.
  • In the anime, a Wooper had a heart on its chest.
  • Wooper's cry in the anime sounds like Upah! much like his Japanese name, ウパー (Upah).
  • Wooper's cry in the game is similar to Sunkern's.

Origin

Wooper and its evolution are based on the axolotl (this is further seen in its Shiny coloration where it grows pink), a salamander, and possibly a mud-fish.

Etymology

Wooper and Upah come from the term "wooper looper", a marketing term used in Japan that is used to sell amphibians, mostly axolotls and salamanders, which is what Wooper is based on.
