*In the episode Manectric Charge, Wattson ordered Manectric to use Thunder Wave. However Thunder Wave is not meant to cause any damage to the opponents and therefore this is considered an error and it is assumed that Wattson meant to say Shock Wave. It should be noted however that [[Will-O-Wisp]], which like Thunder Wave is a status move in the games, is not considered to be an offensive attack because in the games it burns the opponent rather than directly hurting them. However Will-O-Wisp is considered to be an offensive move in the anime so possibly Thunder Wave is considered to be a damaging move too.

Biography

As Electrike

RS040

An Electrike approaches Wattson.

As Wattson was thinking of his job as a Gym Leader, whom he quit, Wattson was approached by a Electrike. Wattson gave Electrike some food, who quickly grew attached to Wattson. Wattson wondered if Electrike knew some moves and found out Electrike could use Thunder Wave, although it struggled with the attack. When Team Rocket tried to capture Mauville City's electric Pokémon, Electrike tried to Bite through the bars of their cage and freed itself, Pikachu and the other electric-type Pokémon. Team Rocket started attacking, though Electrike used Thunder Wave to counter Dustox's Psybeam attack. After Team Rocket was defeated, Wattson decided to keep Electrike and offered Ash a battle, once Electrike grew up.[1]

Once Wattson and his assistant, Watt, heard there was trouble, they went with Electrike and found out Team Rocket stole the heroes' Pokémon. Electrike used Thunder Wave on the balloon, but failed, since the balloon was electric-proof. Watt had Ampharos use Iron Tail, freeing the Pokémon, then had Ampharos use Thunder Shock, along with Electrike's Thunder Wave and Pikachu's Thunder to blast Team Rocket off. After the battle, Electrike evolved into a Manectric.[2]

As Manectric

RS059 15

Manectric charges itself, while being burned by Torkoal's Overheat.

Seeing Manectric grew up, Ash decided to challenge Wattson. Once May had her battle against Watt, Ash sent Torkoal against Wattson's Manectric. Manectric dodged Torkoal's Flamethrower and tackled it. Manectric attempted to bite Torkoal, who used Iron Defense, protecting itself from the attack. Manectric launched Thunder Wave, but Torkoal's Overheat countered the move and burned Manectric. Torkoal fired another Overheat, which hit Manectric, who used Charge. Manectric withstood Torkoal's Flamethrower, then fired Thunder Wave, negating Torkoal's Overheat attack and defeating it.[2]

Trivia

  • In the episode Manectric Charge, Wattson ordered Manectric to use Thunder Wave. However, Thunder Wave is not meant to cause any damage to the opponents. It should be noted however that Will-O-Wisp, which like Thunder Wave is a status move in the games, is not considered to be an offensive attack because in the games it burns the opponent rather than directly hurting them.
