Trivia
- Its Japanese name, Miruhog, may be a combination of meerkat (since it is shown to stand like one) and groundhog (from its appearance). Its English name, Watchog, may be a combination of "watch" and "groundhog."
- Watchog was revealed on an Oha Suta trailer on July 29, 2010. It was officially revealed on the September issue of Coro Coro on August 8, 2010.
- So far every Generation has had a rodent as one of the early Pokémon seen. These include Rattata/Raticate (Generation I), Sentret/Furret (Generation II), Zigzagoon/Linoone (Generation III), Bidoof/Bibarel (Generation IV), and Patrat/Watchog (Generation V).
- Watchog has fluff on the end of its tail, which it uses to alert others. This system is very similar to that of a white-tailed deer, whom they flash their tails to alert the rest of the heard that danger is approaching.
