Biography

Diamond and Pearl series

Luxray was used in Volkner's first battle against Ash as Volkner's first Pokémon. Luxray battled against Ash's Grotle, who used Razor Leaf. Luxray dodged, and went to use Spark, but the battle was called off due to power shortage. It later used Thunder in the Sunyshore Tower to land it safely, as Team Rocket modified the tower to fly.[1]

When Volkner battled against Ash in Ash's second gym battle, he used Luxray as his last Pokémon. Luxray first battled against Ash's Pikachu. The latter use Quick Attack, but Luxray used Shock Wave to stop him from using Quick Attack which succeeded. Pikachu then used Iron Tail, successfully hitting Luxray multiple times. When Pikachu used Iron Tail once more, Luxray used Thunder Fang, biting Iron Tail, and sent Pikachu flying. Luxray then used Shock Wave once more, knocking Pikachu out. Luxray then battled against Ash's Infernape and Infernape used Flamethrower. Luxray countered Flamethrower with Shock Wave and when Infernape attacked with Mach Punch, Luxray used Double Team.

Infernape hit an illusion and Luxray used Thunder Fang, biting Infernape in his arm. Infernape used Mach Punch again but Luxray dodged the attack and used Thunder Fang. Luxray used Thunder Fang again but Infernape used Dig. Volkner ordered Luxray to use Iron Tail, slamming Infernape out of the ground. Volkner ordered Luxray to use Thunder Fang to finish Infernape off but the lights went off and Luxray stopped his attack. Infernape activated his Blaze ability and used Flamethrower which Luxray narrowly dodged. Luxray used Thunder Fang again and successfully hit Infernape but Infernape countered with Mach Punch. Luxray then used Iron Tail but got attacked instead by Infernape's Flame Wheel, knocking Luxray out.[2] Remembering Paul's words, Ash recalled his battle with Volkner's Luxray. He realized he fought his battles alongside his Pokémon, and decided to build his strategy upon that for the battles in Sinnoh League.[3] Luxray and Infernape's battle was later remembered by Ash and Volkner, before began their World Coronation Series battle.[4]
