Volcanion (ボルケニオン Borukenion) is a Fire/Water-type Mythical Pokémon introduced in Generation VI. It was first revealed on December 14, 2015.

BiologyEdit

PhysiologyEdit

Volcanion is a maroon, quadruped Pokemon with blue and yellow markings on its body. It has blue eyes, and a sharp yellow mustache. It has two "arms" with blue circles and it has four yellow diamond-shaped markings on its chest. It has four huge legs, with three claws extended on each foot. Its tail is short and thick.

BehaviorEdit

Natural abilitiesEdit

It has the ability Water Absorb, which deems Water-Type attacks against it useless. Possessing a specialized organ that is actually its arms, Volcanion is able to instantly convert water vapor into steam. The converted steam is launched at high pressure, having enough strength to destroy mountains.

In order to conceal itself and vanish, Volcanion releases plumes of steam. It has been said to inhabit certain mountain areas that are considered forbidden for humans to walk.

Main article: Volcanion (MS019)

Volcanion appeared in the movie, Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel.

TriviaEdit

  • Volcanion is the only Fire/Water type Pokémon.
    • This makes it one of the two Mythical Pokémon with a unique type, the other being Marshadow.
  • Volcanion and Primal Groudon are the only Fire-type Pokémon that are immune to Water-type moves, both due to their abilities.
  • Volcanion is the only Pokémon introduced in Generation VI to not appear in Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, due to not officially being available at the time.

OriginEdit

Volcanion seems to based on felines, specifically lions and tigers. Its mechanical features resembles a tank, and its typing seems to be based on geysers. Volcanion’s ability to fly via its arm cannons may also draw inspiration from a steam engine.

EtymologyEdit

Volcanion is possibly a combination of volcano and lion, or a possible deformation of the word cannon or engine.
