Vivillon (Japanese: ビビヨン, HepburnViviyon) is a Bug/Flying-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VI.

Biology

Physiology

It is adorned with colorful decorative patterns on its wings that are used to scatter its scales or create a strong wind to attack. It strongly resembles Butterfree with respect to its body style.

Special Abilities

Struggle Bug is a Bug-type move that it can use. Struggle Bug lowers the Special Attack of opponent's Pokémon while dealing damage.

Its ability Compound Eyes (which boosts accuracy by 30% of the move's original accuracy value) comes in handy when Vivillon learns Hurricane at Lv50.

Behavior

Evolution

Vivillon can be evolved from Spewpa at level 12, which is the evolved form of Scatterbug.

Trivia

  • There are 19 different wing designs that Vivillon can have on its wings. It ranges mainly in color and style based on what region that 3DS is registered/set. From each area, it differs based on the region's climate, continent and even the top most popular countries on Earth.
  • Vivillon has the second widest variety of obtainable Pokémon Forms, having a total of 19. It is bested by Unown, which has 28 forms. (Arceus, using type plates and its Multitype ability, also has 19 forms; however, one of its forms, the ???-type form, is regarded as unobtainable, causing it to only have 18 obtainable forms.)

Etymology

Vivillon's name comes from "vivi", which is translated as "lively" and "papillon", which is "butterfly".
