The Viridian Forest is the forest that connects Viridian City to Pewter City.
Anime and manga
In the anime, Viridian Forest is where Ash catches his first Pokémon, Caterpie. It's also where he battles Samurai, as shown in Challenge of the Samurai.
In the manga, Viridian Forest is home to Yellow. Also, every ten years a child is born there and possesses the abilities to heal Pokémon and read their thoughts. Named people like these are Yellow, Giovanni and Lance.
Pokémon in Forest
In Viridian Forest, you can find many bug Pokémon. Some are Caterpie, Metapod, Weedle, and Kakuna. In Pokémon Red and Blue, you can also find Pikachu, but it is very rare. In Pokémon Yellow, you can find a Pidgeotto in the forest, however, it is very rare.
