Copied Material

This issue is bound to happen on any sort of information/encyclopedic site regardless of the subject material. Whether you find it annoying, disturbing, or what have you, it is something that happens everywhere.

The administrators and a few other users on this site do their best to stop any direct copying when it happens. However, given the small amount of users that do this, it is not always going to happen. It's going to take time to find any material that is copied, not everyone spends all of their time on the computer. Your complaints are noted, we will handle the situation in time. -- Captain Vas 22:12, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

That being the case, I do seriously recommend creating a template that lets the reader know that what they are viewing is information directly taken from Bulbapedia. It has solved issues in the past between us and other sites, and I hope to have that be the case on TPE as well.
The excuse that it is hard to deal with/it happens everywhere is true, but please be aware that when I make a contribution on Bulbapedia, I make it under the Creative Commons NonCommercial-ShareAlike-Attribution. All that needs to happen is for TPE to give our wiki credit, and we will never have this issue again. This is our suggestion. Work with us on this issue. Thanks, --マグマラシ Fri Mar 27 17:24:20 2009
If you guys can't even keep track of what's on your wiki, maybe you guys need new admins. Look at this guys stole our Custom Sprites from out Custom Sprite Project. As an admin of spotlight wikis myself, I understand your hardships. But someone must be present daily to ensure that this wiki is doing WHAT IT'S SUPPOSED TO!!!--Tavisource-Sharp eyes, slick moves 21:28, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
To elaborate on the issue, the CC-BY-NC-SA copyright is not compatible with Wikia's GNU license at all, since Wikia is a commercial endeavor. As such, a simple attribution wouldn't fix it unless the entire wiki was re-licensed and made non-profit.
Like Tavisource said, it's not an easy job to dig up copyrighted materials, especially without knowing exactly what you're looking for. But one thing you can do is in your image licensing, for one; there's a drop-down box for selecting copyright information, but I notice there's no template for if someone chooses "I don't know the copyright". Stuff like that needs to be auto-tagged for deletion (generally after a set period of time), to make it clear that a license needs to be found.
I believe we (Bulbapedia) have already pointed out a few copyright violations as well (such as this one, which has somehow been closed without any action taken); that would be a great place to start fixing. (no, re-wording the copied content doesn't count; a lot of sections there need to be re-written.) -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 21:48, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
Yes, you might think this copyright issue is over, but it's not. I'm the project leader of Bulbapedia's Custom Sprites Project. We would like you to either rid all custom sprites from Bulbapedia or license them under it. Sprites like this Butterfree should not still be on this wiki.--Tavisource-Sharp eyes, slick moves 00:51, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Tavisource: I've already found that, and slapped template:delete on them. You realise you're talking to RexRacer? He can't do anything here; he isn't an administrator here. I've already brought this issue straight to the top. — THE TROM — 01:03, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Der...I'm not stupid, trom...Rex was also from CP's wiki...I made him admin, of course I would know it's him...jeez...and I'm pretty sure Rex is in charge of this issue...yesh--Tavisource-Sharp eyes, slick moves 00:16, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, Tavisource, wasn't aware of your history on wikia. I could have waited for Rex, but I felt (and I'm sure you'll agree) that getting it sorted as soon as possible was a better decision. — THE TROM — 03:34, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
Ugh...what I mean is that Rex is also a user who was trying to sort things out, so I don't think it's a problem to comment on his page. Sorry if you misunderstood.--Tavisource-Sharp eyes, slick moves 04:45, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
