Learnsets

Bermuda September 5, 2011 User blog:Bermuda

Hey Pokémon Masters, or soon to be! Currently, I'm the only user working on learnsets. As far as I can say, I'll be working more on the weekends on these. As a one-man-operation, I may need some help with all the Pokémon. As of now, I'm currently working on the newest (Gen V) Gen II Pokémon learnsets.

Although, I (re)started this a week ago, I simply just looked at other learnsets and how they are laid out. If I made a mistake in this blog post, please tell me or (if you're an admin) edit the blog. :)

Anyways, I really need help with other generations. I can't do things myself. ;)

Previous Generations

When you're working in previous generations (I, II, III, and IV) please create a subpage called:
(Pokémon name)/Learnset Generation (#)

You will also need to link those newly created pages to the Pokémon's page, as shown with Cyndaquil's page. Use the Main template.

Example:

Chikorita/Learnset Generation II

Which will be:

Main article: Chikorita/Learnset Generation II

You will need to do this with every page that the Pokémon appears in. Pokémon that do not appear in previous generations (such as Totodile not being in Gen I) does not need a link.

For example: Chikorita/Learnset Generation II or Meganium/Learnset Generation IV. Add this corresponding category to the subpage Category:Generation I learnsets, Category:Generation II learnsets, Category:Generation III learnsets, or Category:Generation IV learnsets.

Generation I Learnsets

If you want to work on Gen I (which will be quite easy, since there's only less than ~100 Pokémon without learnsets). Anyways, you can probably use this template... but there's something I don't like about it: the "Category" for Physical, Special, and Status. Since it was introduced in Gen IV, we can't really determine if the category the move belongs in (yes we can look at Gen IV and up for the category, but things can change [ie: Bite turning to a Dark type move in II]). If someone would like to create/make an adjustment to the template, please do so. :)

Here's the current template to use:

For a cleaner one:

If a move is a STAB or same-type attack bonus (moves that boost the power if the Pokémon is of the same type(s) as the move's type), use the bold button.

Example of Bulbasaur's Solarbeam:

Which will be:

Leveling Generation VI
Level Move Power Accuracy PP Type Category
48 SolarBeam 120 100% 10 Grass

Bold indicates this Pokémon receives STAB from this move.
Italic indicates an evolved or alternate form of this Pokémon receives STAB from this move.

An example of a Pokémon (let's say Pidgey) with two types:

Which will be:

Leveling Generation VI
Level Move Power Accuracy PP Type Category
12 Quick Attack 40 100% 30 Normal

28 Wing Attack 35 100% 35 Flying

Bold indicates this Pokémon receives STAB from this move.
Italic indicates an evolved or alternate form of this Pokémon receives STAB from this move.

STAB is only for moves that attack the opponents, hence same-type attack bonus. So please do not bold non-attacking moves, such as Teleport or Whirlwind.

Example:

Which will be:

Leveling Generation VI
Level Move Power Accuracy PP Type Category
Gust 40 100% 35 Normal

5 Sand-Attack 100% 15 Normal

Bold indicates this Pokémon receives STAB from this move.
Italic indicates an evolved or alternate form of this Pokémon receives STAB from this move.

Generation II Learnsets

Generation II uses the same template as above.

Generation III Learnsets=

Generation III learnsets use a different, yet similar template. It has Contest values, such as Appeal and Jam.

Clean:

Here's an example:

Which should be:

Leveling
Level Move Power Accuracy PP Type Contest Cat. Appeal Jam
5 Growl 100% 40 Normal Cute 2 0
Bold indicates this Pokémon receives STAB from this move.
Italic indicates an evolved or alternate form of this Pokémon receives STAB from this move.

Generation IV Learnsets

Generation IV uses the same learnset as I and II. However, an extra perimeter, the "Category" I stated earlier is needed.

Example:

Which will be:

Leveling Generation VI
Level Move Power Accuracy PP Type Category
48 SolarBeam 120 100% 10 Grass [[Move#Special Special

]]

Bold indicates this Pokémon receives STAB from this move.
Italic indicates an evolved or alternate form of this Pokémon receives STAB from this move.

Generation V

Generation V learnsets do not need a subpage and can go in the Pokémon's page. (ie: Chikorita's page)

They use the same template as IV.

Concerns from the Writer

  • How shall we view each learnset in a single page without having to go to the subpage, yet we still don't need to add the template to the parent page (as it shall be in the subpages)? Tabview? Hmm.... Tabview allows us to view another page's content. Read more about Tabview.
<tabview>
Chikorita/Learnset Generation II|II
Chikorita/Learnset Generation III|III||true
</tabview>

Becomes:

    • What I don't like about tabview is the design. Work you're way through css/js! :)
      • Adding the true value makes one of the tabs the default one.
