==Special abilities==
+
=== Behavior ===
  +
They burrow deep in the sand and dig out bowl-shaped pits, making their nests right in the centers. Rather than actively going out and hunting for food, Trapinch simply wait for unwary prey to stumble into their holes; the steep sides cause additional sand to fall onto anything that tries to escape, only dragging unfortunate victims further in, where Trapinch await with open jaws. Then, Trapinch will simply reconstruct their pits and wait for new victims to fall in. When faced with particularly evasive prey, they may use their lower jaws as shovels to fling sand at their targets and cause them to lose their footing. To sleep, Trapinch simply burrow underneath the sand of their nests.
Trapinch has the abilities [[Hyper Cutter]] and [[Arena Trap]] along with the hidden ability [[Sheer Force]]. Hyper Cutter prevents Trapinch's attack from becoming decreased whilst Arena Trap prevents Pokémon from fleeing the battle, excluding itself. Sheer Force removes additional effects from Trapinch to raise its power.

  +
They can survive for a whole week without water; in fact, they often have to, since they spend most of their time waiting in their pits. If trainers accidentally fall into a Trapinch pits, it should be noted that Trapinch have very heavy jaws; if their victims manage to tip their heads over, they will have great difficulty righting themselves up again on their own. This vulnerability also makes them easy prey for smaller predators like Sandile.
==In the anime==

  +
Trapinch appears in ''[[AG106: Beg, Burrow and Steel!]]'' who dug into a labyrinth where [[Ash Ketchum|Ash]] and co. along with [[Team Rocket]] and the researchers [[Hal]] and [[Eliza]] become stuck at. [[Noland]] has a Trapinch appearing in ''[[AG135: Numero Uno Articuno]]''. ''[[DP072: Pokémon Ranger and the Kidnapped Riolu! Part Two]]'', [[Solana]] caught a Trapinch to defeat a [[Golem]]. ''[[DP033: All Dressed Up with Somewhere To Go!]]'' and ''[[DP145: A Rivalry To Gible On!]]''.

Trapinch appears to be based on an {{WP|en|antlion}}. Its way of catching prey is also the same as the tactic used by the antlion with this method also possibly being why it is a {{type|Ground}}-type Pokémon.

Trapinch (Japanese: ナックラー, HepburnNakkuraa) (TRAP-inch[1]) is a Ground-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

Biology

Physiology

Trapinch appears to be an orange bug with a large head and jaws as well as a white underside. Trapinch also has short stubby legs along with twinkles found in its eyes.

Behavior

Natural abilities

Trapinch has the abilities Hyper Cutter and Arena Trap along with the hidden ability Sheer Force. Hyper Cutter prevents Trapinch's attack from becoming decreased whilst Arena Trap prevents Pokémon from fleeing the battle, excluding itself. Sheer Force removes additional effects from Trapinch to raise its power.

Evolution

Trapinch can evolve into Vibrava once level 35 is reached, then into Flygon at Level 45.

Appearances

Anime

Goh Trapinch

Goh's Trapinch.

Trapinch appears in Beg, Burrow and Steal who dug into a labyrinth where Ash and co. along with Team Rocket and the researchers Hal and Eliza become stuck at.

Factory Head Noland has a Trapinch appearing in Numero Uno Articuno.

Pokémon Ranger and the Kidnapped Riolu! Part 2, Solana caught a Trapinch to defeat a Golem.

Goh caught a Trapinch in Hoenn in Making Battles in the Sand!.

All Dressed Up With Somewhere To Go! and A Rivalry to Gible On! were minor appearances of Trapinch.

Trivia

  • Despite its appearance and Egg Group, Trapinch isn't Bug-type Pokémon.
  • Trapinch and Nidorino are the only Pokémon that, when evolving, lose the ability to learn a 1-hit KO move.
  • Trapinch is the only Pokémon that can have a Hidden Ability that evolves into a Pokémon that does not have one.
  • Trapinch, as well as the other members of its evolution line, was added to the Dragon Egg Group in Generation VIII after previously only being in the Bug Egg Group.
  • Despite being tied for the second lowest base Speed stat, at 10, its evolutions, Vibrava and Flygon, have decent Speed (70 and 100, respectively).

Origin

Trapinch appears to be based on an antlion. Its way of catching prey is also the same as the tactic used by the antlion with this method also possibly being why it is a Ground-type Pokémon.

Etymology

Trapinch comes from "trap" and "pinch".
