The Striaton Gym is the first gym in the Unova region. Unlike the previous first gyms, this gym has three different Gym Leaders: Cilan, Cress and Chili. The Gym Leader a player faces depends on the starter Pokémon chosen - the team used in each case will be a Level 12 Lillipup and the Pokémon of the elemental monkey trio that has a type advantage to the player's starter - Pansage, Panpour or Pansear, all at Level 14.

There are three sets of curtains, each one with a different symbol on it (Fire, Water and Grass). To advance in the Gym the player has to stand on a panel that depicts the type that is strong against the type depicted on the curtain (Fire > Grass, Grass > Water, Water > Fire). If the player defeats the Gym Leader, they will earn the Trio Badge.
