Statistics (Stats) are values that apply to a Pokémon's abilities in battle. These values determine such factors as, damage given, damage received, which Pokémon acts first, etc..
HP
All Pokemon have Hit Points. When their HP is completely depleted, the Pokémon faints. Chansey and Blissey have a tremendous amount of HP, making Blissey 1st and Chansey 2nd. Shedinja has 1 HP, making it the 1st Pokemon with rock-bottom HP. It is their vitality during battle. Green is 100%, yellow is 50% or less, and red is 25% or less.
Attack
The higher the Attack, the more powerful the physical moves. Slaking and Rampardos have immense attack power.
Defense
The higher the defense, the less powerful the impacts from physical attacks. Shuckle and Steelix have enormous amounts of Defense.
Special Attack
Special attack relates to attacks that are not physical. In Generation I games, the title for this stat was simply named "special." There were types that signified if the attack was physical or special. Not only did this stat represent special attack, it also represented special defense.
By the Generation II games, the "Special" category separated and created a more accurate special attack and special defense stat. Another change appeared for special attack when Pokémon Diamond and Pearl were released. The system now refers attacks that are special to involve some kind of energy that allows the Pokémon to hit the opponent without making physical contact.
Special Defense
Special defense is the resistance to special attacks. The higher the special defense, the less powerful the impacts from special attacks. Shuckles has enormous amounts of Special Defense.
Speed
The faster the Pokémon, the higher the chance it will get to make a first strike.
