Sinister Woods is traversed due to the disappearance of [[Metapod]], a friend of [[Caterpie]] (who applied for a rescue). However, at the end of the dungeon, [[Team Meanies]], who raced the team to rescue Metapod, challenged them to a fight.

Caterpie comes to you for help, but shortly after explaining his problem, Gengar's team, Team Meanies, shows up and challenges you to a race to save Metapod. You reach Metapod just before Team Meanies but they push ahead and you are forced to fight them. After you defeat them, Metapod comes out of hiding and you take him back to Caterpie.
