Shellder (シェルダー Shellder) is a Water-Type Pokémon, and can evolve into Cloyster by use of a Water Stone. It swims backward by opening and closing its two shells. Its large tounge is always kept hanging out.

To get one in Red and Blue, it can be found while fishing in Vermillion City, Cinnibar Island, and Seafoam Island.

To get one in Yellow, it can be found while fishing on routes 16 and 17.

To get one in Gold, Silver, and Crystal, it can be found while fishing in Olivine City, Vermillion City, Cinnabar Island, and Seafoam Island.

To get one in Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, LeafGreen, and Colosseum, it has to be traded from either FireRed or XD.

To get one in FireRed, it can be found on route 25, Cinnabar Island, Icefall Cave, Lavendar Town, One Island, Pallet Town, and SS Anne, all while fishing.

To get one in XD, it has to be snagged from Cipher Peon Gorog in Cipher Key Lair.

To get one in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, it can be found while fishing with the super rod on route 205-South, Valley Windworks, and Fuego Ironworks.

Its hard shell repels any kind of attack. It is vulnerable only when its shell is open.
Yellow
The shell can withstand any attack. However, when it is open, the tender body is exposed.
Gold
It swims facing backward by opening and closing its two-piece shell. It is surprisingly fast.
Silver
Grains of sand trapped in its shells mix with its body fluids to form beautiful pearls.
Crystal
Clamping on to an opponent reveals its vulnerable parts, so it uses this move only as a last resort.
Ruby
At night, this Pokémon uses its broad tongue to burrow a hole in the seafloor sand and then sleep in it. While it is sleeping, Shellder closes its shell, but leaves its tongue hanging out.
