The Safari Zone is location that holds several rare Pokémon that can't be captured anywhere else. It acts as a sanctuary for rare Pokémon and the player can participate in a timed game. Since it is primarily a sanctuary, trainers cannot battle in the Safari Zone. There are three Safari Zones: one in Kanto located in Fuchsia City, one in Hoenn located west of Lilycove City, and one in Johto located west of Cianwood City (HGSS only).
Game
Besides being a Pokémon sanctuary, the Safari Zone offer a game, where a Trainer can go in for a limited time and capture as many Pokémon they can with Safari Balls. Upon paying the fee for entering, the player receives 30 Safari Balls and in most Safari Zones can walk up to 500 steps. In most games, the player can throw bait, a rock, or a Safari Ball at wild Pokémon.
