The SS Anne was a luxury ferry boat that was first mentioned in the original Pokémon Red and Blue versions. The SS Anne was docked at the Vermilion City Docks. The SS Anne is the predecessor of the SS Aqua which succeeded Anne after it was destroyed by a rampant Gyarados during a routine voyage.

Features[]

The SS Anne was a fairly a large ferry boat which consisted of four floors with ground floor being the lowest. The ground floor consisted of several cabins and access to the deck which can be accessed from a staircase on the first floor. The first floor included access to the ships entrance, passenger cabins, the dining room, and staircases leading to the ground floor and second floor. The second floor included access passenger cabins, the control bridge, and the staircase going to the third floor. The third floor included access to additional cabins and the captain's quarters.

Errors[]

The throughout the video game series, the SS Anne has been identified as a luxury ferry boat. However, the aesthetics of the Anne is clearly that of a luxury ocean liner despite the fact that the ship only consists of three floors which is far below the number of floors to label the Anne as a liner. In the anime, the "ferry" is correctly identified as a "luxury cruise liner" in both description and aesthetics. Over the period of time since the first game, the SS Anne has been depicted with three different designs. Pokémon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow shared the same design. The anime featured its own design that greatly contrasted from the video game series due to artistic privileges. The Fire Red and Leaf Green versions of the game used a design similar to that of the previous games with only slight exterior changes.

Trivia[]

  • The capsizing of the SS Anne during her destruction was a reference to the film, The Poseidon Adventure.
  • An interesting fact: in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, they mention that Professor Rowan and Dawn had just returned from a trip to Kanto. On the SS Anne, you can find a Lass named Dawn, who travels with an old man.
