The S.S. Anne, or St. Anne, is a well-known luxury cruise liner which sails the world, stopping annually in Vermilion City, Kanto. To get on the S.S. Anne in the games, the player must first obtain an S.S. Ticket by helping out Bill. This ship contains many Pokémon Trainers, including many Gentlemen and Sailors. In Generation III, in one room on the first floor, a lady will restore a Trainer's party to full health. Before reaching the captain's cabin, the player will encounter Blue and must battle him.

Anime

Ash and friends were invited to board the ship by a disguised Team Rocket. Unbeknownst to them and all the other passengers, the ship is a trap set up by Team Rocket's boss Giovanni, who plotted to have his Grunts steal their Pokémon. At one point, Ash and his friends witness a Pokémon battle where a gentleman defeats a young Trainer's Starmie with his Raticade. Afterwards, the gentleman gives the Trainer some encouragement before asking if anyone else wanted to challenge him. Ash volunteers to fight him next using his Butterfree and the gentleman agrees. Ash wins the fight and after a meal, the gentleman suggests trading Pokémon and Ash agreed to the idea, gaining Raticate as his new Pokémon. Meanwhile, James is tricked into buying a Magikarp; Jessie and Meowth did not take this kindly (especially after James used some of Jessie's money to buy it without asking her) and made James go return it. However, he could not find the salesman before Team Rocket's plan was put into motion, forcing him to let it go. Jessie, James, Meowth, and the Grunts appear and used vacuums to suck the Trainers' Poké Balls. As some of the Grunts tried to take Ash and his friends' Pokémon, Ash retaliated by having his Pikachu electrocute one of them. Ash then decided to fight back against Team Rocket. The other Trainers agree to do the same and send out their Pokémon to fight the Grunts. The gentleman from earlier also joins the battle and sends out his Squirtle. As Ash and friends join the fight, Ash begins by sending out Pikachu, who attacked the Grunts with Thunderbolt alongside other Pikachu. Following Team Rocket's defeat, they managed to recover the stolen Pokémon. Due to a rough storm, James lost his Magikarp and after Ash got his Butterfree back, he lost it. Both groups are thrown sideways after recovering their Poké Balls, knocking them out. The ship flips over and sinks with Ash, Misty, Brock, Jessie, and James still aboard while the other passengers escape. They were believed to be dead by the public.[1] Later on, they found to be alive and well, but the ship is on a tall rock over a large hole; however, there is still air inside, which is keeping it balanced. After they regain conscious, they encounter each other again after Misty's Goldeen saves Team Rocket from drowning after they foolishly try to open a hole in the ship to escape, not knowing that it will flood the ship. They challenged each other to a battle, but the extra weight causes the ship to tilt.
