Ruins are ancient stone or clay structures dotted around the regions of the Pokémon world. Rare Pokémon are usually found in these places. These structures include Sky Pillar, Mirage Tower and the clay huts that can be explored in the Amity Sqaure. Ancient ruins appear in numerous movies such as the Aztec-style temple with the carving of Mew or the tomb of the Unown writing.

Its is currently unknown who created these structures, only that they lived in places such as Sinnoh and lived alongside Pokémon. Evidence from the games has shown that they wrote in either Braille or Unown.
