Biography[]

Roy lived on an island around the Kanto region, considered to be remote and thus have little contact with the outside world. He lived with his grandfather at the village and would frequently go out into the forest to go adventuring.[1]

While wandering the shores of his island, he came across a banner of the Rising Volt Tacklers and took it with him. Later on, the original owners of the banner came to the island for emergency repairs, during which the ship's Fuecoco went overboard by accident. When Roy returned to his hideout, he discovered that someone or something had come in and eventually heard some singing. Making his way to the source, he found Fuecoco and unintentionally startled it, but rescued it before it went over a cliff and began bonding with it. Roy eventually befriended Fuecoco and returned it to its owners when they arrived, but was unable to stop thinking of it and eventually snuck onto the ship to do so.[2] Roy eventually joined the Rising Volt Tacklers after deciding he wanted to go on an adventure, particularly after the Rayquaza that appeared from the Poké Ball that he had.[3]

During his time with the Rising Volt Tacklers, he was amazed by the sights of the outside world, having not experienced them before. After learning word that the Rayquaza might have been seen in Paldea, the crew made his way there and he went to Artazon and spoke with Brassius, who confirmed the sighting. Brassius had just gotten into a stump however and thus Roy helped Liko and Nemona find Sunflora to cheer his spirits up and he also liked his artwork. This allowed Brassius to regain his motivation and he had a battle with him, though he ended up losing due to a lack of experience.[4]

Nemona later brought them to the forest where Brassius had seen Rayquaza and Arboliva, where they were able to calm the massive Pokémon down after healing one of the inhabitants.[5] Roy later helped Liko restore the forest, having Fuecoco till the soil with Stomping Tantrum. Arboliva was pleased with their efforts and gave both him and Liko a vision of the past, which left him surprised, but upon learning that there were four other Pokémon like it and Rayquaza, was resolved to meet and befriend them.[6]

When the crew was forced to stop for emergency repairs near Levincia, Roy was introduced to the concept of picnics and made a sandwich for him and Fuecoco. However, a wild Wattrel stole the sandwich, though Roy quickly noticed that it was not flying alongside the others.[7] The following day, he met Wattrel again and realized that it had a fear of flying, so he decided to help it gain the confidence needed to do so. Roy was successful in his task, with Wattrel gratefully joining his team in return.[8]
