This Rampardos is a Rock-type Pokémon owned by Roark.

Biography[]

As a fossil[]

At some point, Roark found a fossil and revived Cranidos from it.[1]

As Cranidos[]

During the Gym Battle against Paul, Roark sent his Cranidos, after his Onix got defeated. Chimchar attempted to use Dig, to defeat Cranidos just like it did Onix. However, Cranidos used Headbutt and Zen Headbutt to inflict a lot of damage on Chimchar. This caused Chimchar to become frightened by it, ignoring Paul's orders. As Cranidos used Focus Energy, Chimchar's Blaze ability activated. The two sides clashed with Flame Wheel and Zen Headbutt, though Chimchar aimed at Cranidos' legs to weaken it a bit. As Chimchar went to use Dig, Cranidos used Focus Energy before defeating Chimchar with a Zen Headbutt. Paul sent his final Pokémon, Elekid, to battle Cranidos. Due to Onix's Stealth Rock, Elekid, sustained even more damage. Elekid went to use Brick Break, but missed, whereas Cranidos dealt a blow to it. However, unlike Onix, Cranidos' Mold Breaker prevented it from becoming paralyzed by Static.

Cranidos hurt its leg during the battle, and was not able to avoid Elekid's Brick Break, though it retaliated with Flamethrower. Elekid endured the Flamethrower attack, and pushed Cranidos away with Brick Break, defeating it.[2] Paul had Chimchar fight Cranidos under these hard conditions to bring out its power, by activating its Blaze ability.[3] When Roark battled Ash, he surprised Ash and his friends by choosing Cranidos first instead of last. Ash sent Aipom, who went to use Focus Punch. Cranidos, however, jumped and used Headbutt to inflict Aipom some damage, followed with Flamethrower. While Aipom used Double Team to prevent getting burned, it used Swift, but missed. Cranidos used Zen headbutt against Aipom's Focus Punch, but it managed to defeat the latter.

Ash then sent Pikachu, who used Thunderbolt, but missed. After Pikachu stopped Cranidos' Zen Headbutt with Iron Tail, it jumped to evade Cranidos' Headbutt. However, Cranidos was able to jump high as well, and inflicted damage to Pikachu, who quickly recovered. Using Quick Attack to get close to Cranidos, while evading its Flamethrower attack, Pikachu used Iron Tail to slam it. The two sides clashed with Head Smash and Volt Tackle, before Ash swapping Pikachu with Turtwig. Turtwig was unable to get close to Cranidos to bite it, as it used Flamethrower and Zen Headbutt. Turtwig hid behind rocks, enabling itself to use Razor Leaf at close range to defeat Cranidos.[4]

When Team Rocket unleashed the Fossil Pokémon by mistake, Roark sent Cranidos to confront those Pokémon. It used Flamethrower to distract the Fossil Pokémon, then used Zen Headbutt to stop them. However, Team Rocket snatched it and the Fossil Pokémon. An Aerodactly that was let loose used Hyper Beam, which let the captured Pokémon free. To stop Aerodactyl, Cranidos went to attack, but failed and got knocked over. As a scientist captured Aerodactly with a Pokéball, Team Rocket attempted to run away with the fossil revival machine. At this moment, Cranidos evolved into Rampardos in order to stop them.[1] Roark's Cranidos freeing itself from the web was remembered by Ash, Brock and Dawn, as they were going to Snowpoint City.[5]

As Rampardos[]

With its newly gained strength, Rampardos easily defeated Team Rocket with a Zen Headbutt.[1] Roark's Rampardos evolving from Cranidos was remembered by Ash, Brock and Dawn, as they were going to Snowpoint City.[5]

During Roark and Ash's rematch, Rampardos was the last Pokémon Roark used. Rampardos was unhurt by Aipom's Swift attack. Due to Aipom being exhausted by previous battles, she was defeated by Rampardos' Headbutt attack. Ash sent Pikachu, who attempted to foil Rampardos' attacks by spinning around. However, he failed, and used Quick Attack to counter Rampardos' Headbutt. Rampardos used its tail to lift Pikachu in mid air to gain the advantage, but instead used Zen Headbutt to counter its Iron Tail move. Pikachu's Static ability would've worked to paralyze Rampardos, but the latter's Mold Breaker prevented that status. To finish, Rampardos used Zen Headbutt to defeat Pikachu.

Ash sent Turtwig as his final Pokémon, who dashed away. Rampardos went to use a Headbutt, but Turtwig jumped across it. Rampardos then went to use its tail to slam Turtwig, who bit it and tossed it to a boulder. Next, Turtwig went to use Razor Leaf, but was countered by Flamethrower. Rampardos then used Head Smash, ignoring Turtwig's Razor Leaf, and slammed it. To heal itself, Turtwig used Synthesis, and evaded Rampardos' Flamethrower. To stop Rampardos, Turtwig charged as it used Razor Leaf. While Rampardos fired a Flamethrower to stop Razor Leaf, then went to use Headbutt. At this point, Ash declared Turtwig to jump. However, this was just to fool Rampardos: the latter jumped, while Turtwig slided underneath, to use Razor Leaf at point-blank range, which defeated Rampardos.[6] Turtwig biting Rampardos' tail to make it flinch and toss it away during the Gym Battle was remembered by Ash, Dawn and Brock, as they were going to Snowpoint City.[5]

While on their way to Hearthome City, Ash recalled his Gym Battle against Roark and his Cranidos, who had evolved into a Rampardos.[7]

When Roark challenged his father using his Rampardos, Byron used Bastiodon, as part of their family feud. Rampardos used Zen Headbutt and clashed with Bastiodon's Iron Defense. The two sides clashed until Bastiodon used Flamethrower, which Rampardos evaded. The two sides then collided using Head Smash and Iron Head, but Rampardos took damage from Bastiodon's Iron Head. It also got its Flamethrower stopped by Bastiodon's Flash Cannon. Their battle was stopped, as an alarm was triggered: the group discovered that Byron's fossils had been stolen.

Finding Team Rocket to be the culprit, Byron and Roark sent Bastiodon and Rampardos to attack their machine containing the fossils with Zen Headbutt and Iron Head. As Team Rocket's machine went to attack, Bastiodon used Iron Defense to protect Rampardos, who retaliated with Head Smash, pushing the machine away. In order to defeat them, the two Pokémon dug holes in the machine, letting Ash's Pikachu use Thunderbolt to explode the machine and blast Team Rocket away.[8]

Remembering Paul's words, Ash recalled his battle with Roark's Rampardos. He realized he fought his battles alongside his Pokémon, and decided to build his strategy upon that for the battles in Sinnoh League.[9]

Roark also appeared in the ending scene of the 13th Pokémon movie, along with his Rampardos.[10]
