Red (Japanese: レッド Reddo) also known as Fire (ファイア Faia) is a very powerful Pokémon Trainer from Pallet Town, Kanto. He is the first character to be playable in the Pokémon series and his initial appearance is set in the Generation I main games. He has since then made various appearances in Pokémon media, including the Generation III remakes of Pokémon Red, Green and Blue, Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. He become the official Kanto Pokemon Champion .Red is also a NPC (non-playable character) in Gold (Game), Silver (game), Crystal, HeartGold, SoulSilver, Black 2 and White 2.You can battle him at Mt Silver (Pokemon Gold (Game), Silver (Game) , Crystal , HeartGold, SoulSilver and in the Pokemon Champion Tournament at Black 2 , White 2

Red is a very serious person, especially when he battles. This can be seen easily because he seldom smiles. He is very quiet, and is seen only saying many "..."s in the games.

Red does not appear himself in the anime main series, but Ash is his anime counterpart.

Pokemon: The Origin

Red is the main protagonist in the four part anime special called Pokémon Origins, based off of the Pokemon Red, Pokemon Blue, Pokemon Green, Pokemon LeafGreen, and Pokemon FireRed games.

The Pokedex

It starts off with Red and Green, his rival, going to professor Oak's lab to receive a PokeDex, PokeBalls, and their first starter Pokemon. Green lets Red choose first. Red chooses a Charmander because it is a fire type like he is named after. Green chooses Squirtle. Oak ask them to fill the Pokedex with the 149 known Pokemon and they excitingly take the challenge. Red sees a Pidgey but fails to capture it and finds out that in order to fill the Pokedex he must capture all 149 Pokemon. He then sees and captures his first Pokemon, Rattata. Soon he captures Spearow, Caterpie, and Pidgey. While fighting a trainer, who has a Nidoran♀, he attempts to capture that as well but finds out that he can only capture wild Pokemon and the trainer tells him where he caught that Pokemon. While walking towards that area he finds Green again and they battle 1 on 1. Green wins the battle. Afterwards he is confronted by Brock who tells him that Pokemon and their trainers need to grow stronger together and tells him to begin challenge the Gym leaders.

Gym Leaders

Red heals his Pokemon head to Pewter City and challenges the leader, who appears to be Brock. Brock only uses two of his Pokemon, Geodude and Onix while Red uses 5 of his Pokemon, Charmander, Spearow, Rattata, Metapod, and Nidoran♂. Red ends up winning and receives his first Gym badge. Red bought a "rare" Magikarp from a salesman for $500. He then went through Mt. Moon and got the Helix Fossil and also beat the Rocket members there and another at Cerulean City. He was able to take down Misty and Lt. Surge and win his 2nd and 3rd badge. Sometime during this his Charmander evolved into a Charmeleon. He received the TM Dig, the HM Cut, a bike, and a Old Rod during his travels. He had captured 42 Pokemon at this time.

Lavender Town

After traveling through the Rock Tunnel, he had reached Lavender Town. While he was healing up his Pokemon at the Pokemon Center, he overheard stories about ghost in Pokemon Tower. Before heading there, he stops by the Pokemon House as the Nurse requested. He saw many of the abandon Pokemon, including a Cubone, who's mother got killed by Team Rocket and was rescued by Mr. Fuji, the owner of the Pokemon house. Red finds out that Mr. Fuji had gone missing after going into Pokemon Tower and decided to go looking for him. Green overhears this and decides to go too. Red takes on the ghost with Charmeleon but cannot defeat it. Green comes and gives Red the Silph Scope, which reveals that the Ghost is Cubone's Mother. Cubone then comes and hugs it's mother, who disappears after, seeing that her son is alright. Red then uses Jolteon to defeat Team Rocket and save Mr. Fuji. Mr. Fuji then gives Red a PokeFlute and a box of unknown gems. Red then sets out to head for the next town on his adventure.

Giovanni

Red and Charmeleon defeated Erika's Vileplume and won the Rainbow Badge. He found a secret Team Rocket base in the same city and infiltrated it. He battled Team Rocket, released all the Pokemon there, and met the leader of Team Rocket, Giovanni. He later found a sleeping Snorlax, woke it up, and battled and captured it. He received the Good Rod from the brother of the guy that gave him the Old Rod and used it to capture a Psyduck. Red defeated the ninja Gym Leader Koga and got a 5th Gym Badge. After countless battles, his Charmeleon evolved into Charizard. Red had captured 65 Pokemon at this time. Red and Green found a woman and helped her escape from Team Rocket. She told them about the Masterball project and that Team Rocket was using Pokemon as test subjects to experiment on. Red ordered Green to tell the police while he would storm Silph Co. and free the Pokemon. He again met Giovanni, who battled his Nidoqueen against Red's Charizard and won. Giovanni and the rest of Team Rocket escaped.

The Ultimate Gym Leader

After Saffron City, Red challenged Sabrina and defeated her Alakazam with Haunter. A scientist he freed thanked him and gave Red his Lapras. He beat the Karate Master and won his Hitmonlee. He and Lapras traveled to Cinnabar Island. While there, Red went to Pokemon mansion and read about Mew and MewTwo. He then battled and defeated Blane. After hearing that the Viridian City Gym leader returned, the strongest of all the Gym leaders, Red decided to challenge him. He arrived just as Green finished battling and beating the Gym leader. Red challenged the leader and found out that it was Giovanni. Red declared that he no longer wanted a Gym battle but wanted to fight him for all the things he had done to Pokemon worldwide. Giovanni then grabbed two special Pokeballs and accepted the battle. He used Rhyhorn and defeated Red's Victreebel, Kabutops, Snorlax, and Jolteon. Hitmonlee was able to take Rhyhorn down but it also brought him down as well. Giovanni used Rhydon and Red used Charizard as their last Pokemon. Charizard, despite the type advantage, was able to defeat Rhydon. Giovanni offered Red the badge but Red refused to take anything from the Rocket leader, so Giovanni dismembered Team Rocket so that Red would accept the badge.

The Pokemon League

After making it through Victory Road, Red was able to battle the Elite 4. He used Jolteon, Scyther, Dodrio, Lapras, Persian and Charizard to take them down. Lance was about to announce him Champion but revealed that there was one more he had to fight, Green. Green sends out Pidgeot first while Red uses Jolteon. Jolteon defeats Pidgeot. Red's Scyther battles Green's Alakazam and they both get defeated. Green's Rhyhorn is defeated by Red's Lapras, who is defeated by Arcanine. Red's Dodrio gets defeated by Green's Exeggutor, but later is defeated by Persian. Jolteon is defeated by Blastoise and Red is down to one Pokemon left, Charizard. Charizard and Blastoise battle it out until the end, in which Charizard wins. Oak then comes and puts Red and his Pokemon in the Hall of Fame.

MewTwo

Red continues to complete the Pokedex. He captures the Legendary Birds Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres, and once he captured all 149 Pokemon, Green is majorly injured by a unknown Pokemon and Red sets out to capture it. The Pokemon is revealed to be MewTwo. MewTwo defeats all but one of Red's Pokemon, Charizard. Charizard and Red are thrown into the water but then the gems Mr. Fuji gave Red made Charizard Mega Evolve into Charizard X. Red then used Charizard X to defeat and capture MewTwo, now having 150 Pokemon captured. He later realizes that Mew created MewTwo so Red then set off to go find Mew.

Manga

His first Pokémon was a Poliwag, which evolved into a Poliwhirl when saving him from drowning prior to the beginning of the story, and evolved once more into a Poliwrath in Buzz off, Electabuzz!

Red is eleven years old at the beginning of the Red, Green & Blue chapter. He is first seen in A Glimpse of the Glow, when he shows a group of children the proper way to catch a Pokémon. He demonstrates by using his Poliwhirl to battle a wild Nidorino. Red is very sentimental, as shown in the battle versus Blue in the ninth annual Pokémon League tournament. He believes that defeating an opponent is no fun if they are at a disadvantage, as seen in both The Secret of Kangaskhan and Make Way for Magmar!. At the beginning of the series, he is quite cocky, as shown in Suddenly Starmie. However, this cockiness has subsided by the end of the RGB saga.

Red's special skill, as described by Professor Oak, is Pokémon battling. As such, he is called the "Fighter" (戦う者Fighter). In later adventures, Red has been viewed as a leader amongst the Pokédex holders.

In the Games

In Red and Blue (Green in Japan) Red is the only playable character. The player advances through the game as

Red's Artwork in Red and Blue

Red with, as usual, a name of their choice. He also appears in their remakes, FireRed and LeafGreen, with the same purpose.

In Pokémon Gold and Silver and Crystal, and their remakes, Red is fought at Mt. Silver, in which he has Pokémon similar to Ash of the anime (except for the fact that all three starters are fully evolved compared to Ash only having one fully evolved). Red also retakes this role in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. You can battle once again by defeating the Elite Four.

Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, he seems like a shady character who has strong Pokémon. Red is the highest leveled trainer of any Pokémon game. This record was broken by Barry in Platinum, but Red broke it again in HeartGold and SoulSilver.

In, Pokémon Black and White Versions 2, he participated in the Pokémon World Tournament. Meaning he has appeared in at least one game in most generations, with the exception of three, it is unknown if he'll appear in six.

Red in Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Red also makes a appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as the Pokémon Trainer, he is accompanied by Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard and is a newcomer. He only talks when switching Pokémon and when he wins. He does not fight but instead is shown in the background commanding his Pokémon (using special-down will switch them during battle). In story mode he follows the character if he is being used until they get to a point where he is unable to continue, however he will be warped infront of the character at certain times. Each Pokémon he uses is different in weight and evolution. Squirtle is a light weight and is not evolved at all, Ivysaur is an averaged out middle weight and a has evolved once. Charizard is a heavy weight and is fully evolved.

Role in the Subspace Emissary

Red is first introduced when Lucas bumps into him and both are surrounded by Primids. Red uses Squirtle (the only Pokémon available at the start of Red's appearance) to defeat them and continues to go search for more Pokémon (in which Lucas goes with him). They then go to the ruins to find Charizard and Ivysaur, but before they continue, they then are attacked by Wario, which they win. During the story, Red finds Ivysaur as a trophy (likely due to a lost battle with Charizard) and captures it with a Poke Ball, and battles Charizard and captures it as well. He and Lucas then reach the end if the ruins and battle Galeom who fell though the top. After winning, Galeom is revealed to be a Subspace Bomb and grabs Lucas and Red (the latter being knocked out). However Lucas frees them and they are saved by Meta Knight. They then go with Marth, Meta Knight and Ike. They then go to a mountian where a battle is taking place, which ends with an army from Subspace coming to attack. They manage to defeat them (with help from Mario, Link, Kirby, Pit, Yoshi and Ice Climbers). They then meet up with the heroes that were in the Halberd and the Bomb Factory. He (along with the others) go to subspace to defeat Master Hand. However he is defeated with the others by Tabuu. If he is found by King Dedede, Luigi and Ness he will go to fight Tabuu.
