After the lesson, Red encounters a boy, a group of thugs and a [[Mew|strange Pokémon]] with a mystical power. Red goes to fight it, but his [[Poli]]whirl gets defeated, causing Red to be sad, but seeks a [[Blue (Adventures)|person]] who might help him.
This chapter features [[Red (Adventures)|Red]] teaching a group of children how to catch a [[Pokémon]] by using his [[Poliwhirl]] to attack a [[Nidorino]] that a boy was trying to catch. There is also [[Blue (Adventures)|Blue]] who attempts to catch a [[Mew]] using his [[Charmander]]. Mew easily dodges the attack and instead of getting angry, Blue calmly calls Charmander back into its PokéBall. Red doesn't understand why [[Blue]] does this and confronts him and tries to attack Mew with Poliwhirl. Instead Blue tells Red that he was foolish to attack Mew as it was superior to his Poliwhirl.
 
 
[[Team Rocket]] is on the lookout for capturing [[Mew]] in this chapter but they only find Red after Mew ran away and they start shouting at him before themselves running away. A Glimpse of the Glow (Japanese: VSミュウ, HepburnVS Mew) is the 1st chapter of Pokémon Adventures: Volume 1.

Synopsis

Red, a trainer from Pallet Town, teaches some children about the world of Pokémon. After the lesson, Red encounters a boy, a group of thugs and a strange Pokémon with a mystical power. Red goes to fight it, but his Poliwhirl gets defeated, causing Red to be sad, but seeks a person who might help him.

Red is still sad at his defeat and remembers Prof. Oak. He recalls people called Oak an "old nut", but also knows if he is going to be a good trainer, he needs some advice, which he can only seek at Prof. Oak's place. Putting his doubts in place, Red goes to ring the bell at Prof. Oak's lab.
