Ranger

Prof. Hastings once went to school with Gordor, who was once his friend in colleague. However, Gordor constantly felt that he was always second compared to Hastings, and the two have a falling out after Gordor suggests using the Prof.'s Capture Styler to enslave Pokémon against their will

During the game, the Prof. comes to Ringtown to retrieve a new, more powerful, prototype styler called the Super Styler from Spencer. The Player is assigned to escort the Prof. back to Fall City. However, Go-Rock Squad grunts set a trap and steal the Super Styler prototype from him. When the two get to Fall City, the Prof. warns Joel to have the Rangers be on alert for the Go-Rock Squad.

He later joins the Player in infiltrating and shutting down Dusk Factory, the location where the Go-Rock Squad is mass-producing their Super Stylers.

After Gordor is defeated in Fiore Temple, he meets the Prof. for the first time in years. the two discuss their history and Hastings offers Gordor a chance to put his evil ways behind him and use his talents for the good of others. Even though Gordor refuses and storms off, Hastings tells him that there always been a spot waiting for him in the Union. Afterward, he congratulates the Player for saving Fiore along with the others.

Some time after, he gives the Player's Styler the Ranger Record feature to record their achievements.

Shadows of Almia

Prof. Hastings is present during Rhythmi's visit to the Ranger Union, though he ends up mistaking her name for Misery. He later appears at the Vientown Ranger Base to research the remains of a Gigaremo recovered from Marine Cave. He reveals he saw several similar machines in Pueltown, but thought they were just strange mailboxes. After he is finished examining the machine, he is escorted back to the Union building by Barlow and the Player and gives a conference about the appearance of Team Dim Sun and the threat they pose to Almia.

After the Player becomes a Top Ranger, the Prof. reveals that their rival, Keith, had also become a Top Ranger and explains the features of the Fine Styler before sending the two out on a mission to support Sven at the Chroma Ruins. When the three Top Rangers bring back Brighton Hall's Diary, the Prof. oversees its restoration and translation. He also helps lead the effort to recover the three colored gems and use their power to nullify the dark shards used in Team Dim Sun's devices.

When it is reveal that Altru Tower is in fact TDS's ultimate weapon, the incredible machine, and Isaac is kidnapped to finish it's programming, the Prof. helps lead "Operation: Brighton" to rescue Isaac, find the Yellow Gem in the tower, and stop TDS's plan to control all of Almia's Pokémon. After Operation: Brighton is completed, Hastings presents Brighton's restored diary to Blake Hall and reads some of it aloud, revealing how Blake became corrupted by the Shadow Crystal's dark powers and how Brighton searched for a way to free his son from its clutches. Afterward, the Prof. gives the Player the opportunity to go to their home in Chicole Village to get some well earned rest.

Guardian Signs

Prof. Hastings assigns two Rangers to investigate the new criminal organization that has appeared in the Oblivia Region: the Pokémon Pinchers. He later sends Murph to Oblivia on the Union to find out why no reports have been coming from the Rangers in Oblivia.

He travels to Oblivia in the Post-Game by riding with Wendy on her Staraptor (much to his discomfort). After the Ben and Summer retrieve the final piece of Golden Armor. He meets with the Rangers at Rand's house and decides to study the Golden Armor at the Ranger Union before destroying it. After everyone realizes that the Golden Armor was trying to force the legendary birds to protect the armor pieces until a new evil master could claim it, the Prof. declares that the Ranger have not only saved Obliva in the present, but have protected it's future as well.

The Prof. makes a few appearances in a few Post-Game Quests. During the Quest "the Precious Red Berry", it is revealed the Prof. and Booker are brothers and Booker has the Player retrieve a special berry call the "Friend Mend Berry" which is given as an apology to the Prof. and the two brothers reconcile. During the Quest "Murph Ranger Contest" he congratulates Murph for his selection of Pokémon for his contest, but playfully teases him when he learns Murph hadn't finished the contest trophy yet. During the Quest "The Forbidden Song", the Prof. sends the Player to Tilikule Island to find Latias/ Latios (depending on the Player's gender). During the Quest "Go-Rock Oblivia", the Prof. invites the Go-Rock Quads to perform in Oblivia and watches them play along with Ukulele Pichu on Wireless Tower. Afterward, he informs the Player they cleared every Quest in Oblivia and congratulates them on their achievement.

During the mission to rescue Blue-Eyes from the depths of the Eastern Sea, he witness the Player capture Lugia and realizes they have registered every Pokémon in Oblivia in their Browser and congratulates them.
