When time went out of whack, Dialga also lost control. Now, here in your future, the planet has become fully paralyzed. And thus Dialga has lost almost all his reason...and is governed by darkness. Dialga is now beyond recognition. He has become an entirely different entity... Yes... He has been transformed into Primal Dialga, a primordial presence.

Grovyle, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky

Primal Dialga is a character and the final main-storyline boss of Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky. It rests at the top of Temporal Tower.

Physiology[]

Primal Dialga has the body shape of a normal Dialga, but the color scheme is different. The blue color in its body is changed to dark navy blue, the "streamers" are recolored to orange and the diamond in the chest is altered from blue to a cherry shade red which is a sign of its berserk and savage state. This is caused by a collapsing Temporal Tower, resulting in complete loss of self-control, which earns it the name of "Primal Dialga".

Biography[]

Explorers of Time, Darkness an Sky[]

Primal Dialga Battle

In an alternate future, Temporal Tower collapsed due to Darkrai sabotaging it, and with the destruction of time, Dialga was sent into a primal state, making him a being running on pure primal instinct and self-preservation, dedicating himself to prevent any attempt to alter the past to protect himself from being erased from existence. When Grovyle and the Player went back in time, Dialga sent his follower Dusknoir back in time as well to stop them.

He is not seen up until Dusknoir drags the Player and their Partner back to the future, where Primal Dialga orders Dusknoir to eliminate them along with Grovyle. He later assists Dusknoir and his six Sableye in trying to stop the group from going back in time through the Passage of Time, his sheer presence making Grovyle lose hope. However, the Partner comes up with a plan to use Celebi's time travel powers to get close enough to the Passage of Time and even thought Primal Dialga uses his power to interfere, the plan works and Grovyle, the Partner, and Player all escape back to the present,

Once the Player and Partner reach the summit of Temporal Tower, the present day Dialga attacks them, believing they've come to destroy the Tower due to being in the process of transforming into Primal Dialga and begin to lose his sense of reason. They manage to defeat him and save the tower, restoring time and Dialga to their normal states after which he thanks the player and their partner, grateful for all they've done. The future Primal Dialga, Grovyle, Dusknoir, and the Player are all erased from existence due to being from a future which no longer exists but after the Temporal Tower incident, the present day Dialga returns the Player to life as a show of gratitude for repairing the flow of time and the player's sacrifice, as well as the partner's sorrow at the loss of their friend and knowing that the world needs them both.

However, as revealed in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky special episode, before they are erased from existence, Primal Dialga seemingly casts Dusknoir aside and replaces him with an unseen new crafty henchman. However, it is's eventually revealed that the new henchman wasn't real and that it was a plot for Dusknoir to take over Grovyle's body and return to the past in order to use it to attack the Player and Partner to stop history from being changed. What Primal Dialga nor Dusknoir didn't anticipate was Dusknoir having a change of heart during his adventures with Grovyle and abandoning his plan to save Grovyle. Primal Dialga becomes furious at Dusknoir's desertion an attacks him viciously, despite the attempts of the Sableye (who also reformed their ways) to stop him. Before he can continue attacking Dusknoir, time begins to start moving and this sends Primal Dialga into an even more berserk state. He instinctively travels to a nearby Passage of Time to destroy it, which would have unknown but potentially catastrophic consequences to time. Grovyle, Dusknoir, and Celebi confront him to keep him from damaging time and defeat him. After time is erased, Primal Dialga, Dusknoir, Grovyle, and Celebi are spared, and Primal Dialga being converted back into normal Dialga in the process. He then informs them they were saved by a being even more powerful than him: implied to be Arceus.
