Rival Battle #1
+
The Violet Gym specializes in Flying-type Pokémon. Clip their wings with Electric attacks, or knock them out of the sky with Rock moves. The traded Onix will be a big help, and Mareep can be found on Route 32 to the south. Avoid using Grass and Bug Pokémon. Falkner will use Roost often, so be ready for a long battle. Step onto the wooden platform to reach the elevated walkway. This S-shaped battlefield has a Gym Trainer at each end, but it is possible to avoid both and reach Falkner immediately by traveling along the glass tiles.
You meet the same boy who is standing suspiciously outside the Prof. Elm's lab a while earlier. He then challenged you with the Pokémon he stole from the lab. His Pokémon is always have a type that is against yours. If you choose Chikorita, he will use Cyndaquil. If you choose Cyndaquil, he will use Totodile. Last, if you choose Totodile, he will choose Chikorita.

After battling, he will complain that he wants to be the world's greatest Pokémon Trainer. Then he walked away. But then he returned to you and grab back his Trainer Card, apparantly you are holding it, then he realised you saw his name. Then he walked away. Now head back to Prof. Elm's lab now by going through Route 29.

Theft Case
Prof. Elm is very shocked and worried back in his lab. A police asked him whether you saw any suspicious character - which is the same person you battled just now. Ethan/Lyra enter the lab and also states that he/she had met the thief. Now, you just have to give him a name. I will call him 'Silver'.

Then, you pass the Mysterious Egg to Prof. Elm. Prof. Elm then steps back, surprised at the egg. Then, he was shocked to hear that you received a Pokédex from Prof. Oak. Then he tell you to challenge the gym around Johto, then go challenge the Pokémon League. He also wants you to tell your Mom going off for the long journey. (If you have not yet tell your Mum, she will call you at Route 30, asking whether you want to save money).

Defeated, Falkner awards you the Zephyr Badge, which ensures obedience from all Pokémon up to level 20, and enables the use of Rock Smash in the field. He also hands over TM51 (Roost) as a prize. Roost restores 50% of the user's maximum HP, and Flying types that use it are treated as single-type Pokémon until the next turn.

Now, it's time to leave to Violet City.
+
Elm calls when you leave the Gym, and asks that you speak with his aide inside the Poké Mart. The aide asks that you take care of the Mystery Egg, which will eventually hatch into a Togepi with the special Extrasensory move. The professor will call again when the Egg hatches, asking to see it; visit him with Togepi as the lead Pokémon to receive an Everstone.

Upon leaving the Poké Mart, you meet one of the Kimono Girls, five sisters from Ecruteak City's Dance Theater. She shows an interest in the "important" Egg, and asks that you take good care of it before leaving to the south.
When you are heading out to Route 29, Ethan/Lyra will approach you and teach you how to catch a Pokémon. After that, he/she will give you 5 Poké Balls. Then he/she leave the place. Continue to Cherrygrove City and then to Route 30.

Part 1 Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver Walkthrough List Part 3

Route 30Edit

On the second visit to Route 30, the Pokémon battle that had blocked the western road has ended, clearing the path northward.

Route 31Edit

Route 31 is a small route that connects Route 30 and Violet City. The western entrance to Dark Cave is located here, but the area cannot be fully explored just yet.

When you step inside the gate, Lyra/Ethan enters from the east. She/He gives you a gift, the Vs. Recorder. This device can record and replay battles, and allows you to share them with friends.

Violet CityEdit

Violet City HGSS

Violet City is the first city with a Pokémon Gym. Other landmarks include Sprout Tower in the north, and Earl's Pokémon Academy in the east. It is recommendable to catch a Bellsprout to trade for the Onix in the house near the Pokémon Center, as it can learn Rock Throw which will help when it comes time to battle Falkner later. The Juggler outside the Pokémon Center likes to collect Shards, and will trade three different Berries for each one. The Berries obtained correspond to the shard's color. The kid in the house near the Pokémon Center is looking for a Bellsprout. In return, he offers his Onix, Rocky. Rock Pokémon like this will be useful at the Violet Gym. The Pokémon School is where young Trainers learn how to raise Pokémon. The blackboard lists the five status ailments that can affect a Pokémon.

Sprout TowerEdit

Sprout Tower is a towering pagoda where Sages teach that all living things coexist through cooperation. Since these monks also train Pokémon, it's a good opportunity to train before challenging the Violet Gym. Battle Sage Nico and climb down the northeast ladder. Grab the Parlyz Heal, fight Sage Chow, and climb up the western ladder. Collect the X Accuracy and climb the southern ladder. Pick up the Potion and head north. It seems that Elder Li has just been defeated by Silver. The elder scolds him for being too harsh on his Pokémon, then Silver leaves via an Escape Rope. Grab the Escape Rope to the east, then speak to Li to be drawn into battle. Li rewards you with TM70 (Flash), which illuminates certain areas. Use the Escape Rope to exit the tower, and set out for the first Gym.
