Pokémon Forms are variations between individual Pokémon, these variations may be different in types, ability, stats, or learnsets sometimes forms are purely aesthetic. Pokémon Forms are first introduced in Generation II with Unown but purely aesthetic. In Generation III some Pokémon forms begin to bear differences in types, ability, stats, or learnsets with Castform (weathers effecting its typing) and Deoxys (stats and learnsets variations among forms however Deoxys' forms are version locked until Generation IV).
Any Pokémon that transforms by ability it needs to meet a certain prerequisite in accordance of random, possible and even the indirect outcome. All of their Formes can be altered by other outcomes or the Forme assumed itself is ultimately temporary.
Pokémons that changes Formes through Miscellaneous conditions are neither via possessed Ability nor via holding an Item. All the Pokémons that changes Formes may revert back to its default Forme regardless of any manipulating conditions, since the conditions may be controlled itself by hacking or trading them from one game to another.

Pokémons that is actually the same Pokémon but some of them have literal difference in appearance. All of the Pokémons possessing Alternate Formes only classify itself having a fixed appearance. From the time they are captured or traded, they will always retain the Forme. Also, neither of them have other difference with each other rather than having different colour or shape.
