Meanwhile, Iris has been having some trouble connecting with her powerful and stubborn Dragonite—can a visit home to the Village of Dragons help sort things out for the aspiring Dragon Master? After finding out that this year’s Unova League will be taking place in Vertress City, Ash can’t wait! Our heroes say goodbye to Cynthia and Jervis and off they go, planning to stop by the Village of Dragons on the way so Iris can visit her hometown.
760 | BW101 |
| ||
On the way to Vertress City, site of the upcoming Unova League, our heroes notice a Drilbur and a Braviary who seem to be watching them. Their Trainers—brothers Rocko and Soren—show up soon after and challenge Ash to a Tag Battle! Ash is happy to accept, and decides to pair up with Cilan for a similar land-and-air team of Pansage and Unfezant.
761 | BW102 |
| ||
As our heroes excitedly arrive at Iris’s hometown, the Village of Dragons, they run into her childhood friend Shannon and the two Zweilous she’s been raising. Iris makes plans to meet up with Shannon later and tell her friend all about her journey, but first she needs to visit the Village Elder.
762 | BW103 |
| ||
Iris has been challenged by Opelucid Gym Leader Drayden, and she’s back in town to battle him! But as soon as she arrives (with Ash and Cilan in tow), a crisis of confidence sends her scurrying up a tall metal tower for some fresh air and solitude. Her retreat doesn’t last long, though—Officer Jenny is quickly on the scene to order her back to the ground, and she makes Iris promise never to do that again. It seems the aspiring Dragon Master has a bit of a history here...
763 | BW104 |
| ||
On their way to Vertress City, site of the Unova League, our heroes encounter a rockslide in their path. Ash and Iris try to climb over it, and it gives way under their feet! But a young man with an Eevee comes to the rescue, and his Espeon uses Psychic to float Ash and Iris out of danger.
764 | BW105 |
| ||
Our heroes have finally arrived in Vertress City, home of the Unova League, and Ash’s excitement is at a fever pitch! While they’re in the midst of marveling at the massive Unova League stadium, the familiar faces of several Trainers begin rolling into town with their own plans to compete—and to Ash’s dismay, Bianca’s entrance is as dramatic as ever.
765 | BW106 |
| ||
The Unova League qualifying round between Ash and Trip continues, with Trip’s Serperior appearing to have victory—and Pikachu—all wrapped up! But Ash is determined not to let his rival knock him out of the competition, and a combination of Iron Tail and Electro Ball turns the tables, allowing our hero to move on to the main event!

| ||
As the second round of the Unova League comes to a close, Ash, Cameron, Stephan, and Virgil have all won their battles to advance to round three! While everyone discusses how to spend the evening—watching a fireworks show, browsing the many vendors on site, or relaxing in the sauna—Axew wanders off and is quickly lost in the crowd.

Ash and Stephan’s third-round match at the Unova League is just getting under way, and it’s Ash’s Krookodile versus Stephan’s Liepard! There’s no doubt both sides are in it to win it, and they appear evenly matched as they offer move after powerful move. But Krookodile ekes out the win, so Stephan brings out his amazingly fast Zebstrika. Krookodile has taken quite a bit of damage, so Ash switches it out for Palpitoad—a Water- and Ground-type Pokémon to combat Zebstrika’s best moves, Flame Charge and Thunderbolt. With some clever strategies in place on both sides, this bout ends in a draw!

We’re into the quarterfinals of the Unova League, and the first battle is between Ash and Cameron—who has just revealed Hydreigon as his “secret weapon”! Ash chooses Boldore to start off—a powerful Pokémon, indeed. But Hydreigon’s power is overwhelming, and soon Cameron has his first win of their six-on-six match.
769 | BW110 |
| ||
Now that Cameron’s Riolu has evolved into Lucario in the midst of his Unova League battle with Ash and Snivy, the heat is really turning up! After evolving, Lucario’s powerful moves are even stronger than Riolu’s were, and Snivy is defeated.

Now that the Unova League has ended, our heroes set their sights on Nuvema Town and Professor Juniper’s lab. En route, they come across a terribly upset girl named Natasha, who’s petrified of crossing a bridge because she’s afraid she made it unsafe by tapping on it! Though Ash attempts to prove the bridge is safe by crossing first, he ultimately has to come back and bring her across with him. Natasha is grateful, and Ash offers her some advice: Being careful is fine, but sometimes you just have to go for it!

| ||
Traveling on a ship, headed for the White Ruins and Professor Juniper’s father, Cedric, our heroes meet an unusual young man known as N. N tells them he considers all Pokémon his friends, and he claims he can hear the inner voices of Pokémon. He’s also quite pleased with the strong bond he senses between Ash and Pikachu.
772 | BW113 |
| ||
Our heroes have finally arrived in Aspertia City, and on Professor Juniper’s advice, they want to visit the new Gym—which doubles as a schoolhouse where Trainers-to-be can learn all about Pokémon! They meet a young teacher named Cheren, who also happens to be the brand-new Gym Leader. Ash wastes no time in challenging Cheren to a battle, but it has to be an exhibition match because the battlefield isn’t finished yet.

In a dark laboratory, the scientist Colress experiments on a terrified Galvantula, attempting to increase its power using electromagnetic waves. It seems he is part of a mysterious organization called Team Plasma, which seeks to control the Unova region...

| ||
On their way to the White Ruins, Ash, Iris, and Cilan meet a wayward Mareep and an Ampharos who’s trying to get it back to its flock—without much luck. They soon meet a girl named Ellie, who brings them to Floccesy Ranch, where her grandfather raises the Pokémon. Ampharos is the guardian of the Mareep flock, but it lacks confidence, and the Mareep don’t pay much attention to its directions.

Team Plasma is still working on its evil plan: catching Pokémon for use as research subjects with the ultimate goal of world domination. Two henchmen, Schwarz and Weiss, are holding a Braviary captive as they make their way back to headquarters, but they soon encounter a roadblock—set up by N! He uses the distraction to break into their truck and free Braviary, and the two of them escape—but they’ve both been injured by the grunts, and Braviary has a hidden tracking device attached to its neck.

On their way to the White Ruins, our heroes (accompanied by N) have just arrived in Virbank City when they see smoke and rush to investigate. But as Ash recruits Oshawott to put out the fire, they are stopped by an insistent Watchog wearing a red scarf. It turns out the fire is part of a drill conducted by the Pokémon Harbor Patrol, a team dedicated to dealing with any disasters that happen around Virbank City’s extensive harbor. Under the direction of Captain Halsey, Dewott and two Frillish run the rescue operations and put out fires, and Watchog serves as lookout.
777 | BW118 |
| ||
Continuing their journey to the White Ruins, our heroes (traveling with N) come across the Kanto Fair: a festival celebrating the sights and sounds of the Kanto region! Of course, since Ash is from Kanto originally, this takes him right back to memories of his home. And when our heroes see Professor Oak’s presentation on the three Kanto Pokémon available to beginning Trainers—Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle—memories of Ash’s own early Pokémon journey come flooding back.
778 | BW119 |
| ||
As our heroes and N continue their journey, Team Plasma is fine-tuning its evil plan: to target and control any Pokémon while elevating its rage and attack power to the maximum, thanks to Dr. Colress’s diabolical machine. Team Plasma agents are also keeping an eye on Cedric Juniper and his team at the White Ruins—and, apparently, searching for N!
779 | BW120 |
| ||
N has been injured in a battle with Team Plasma, and as our stunned heroes watch, two mysterious women appear and take him to a pool in the forest, where he is fully healed. Ash, Iris, and Cilan soon learn that N and the two women, Concordia and Anthea, have been living in a secret hideaway, where they take care of Pokémon that have been mistreated by people.
780 | BW121 |
| ||
After bidding farewell to N and his companions, our heroes have found themselves within sight of Dragonspiral Tower. The White Ruins are close by, and Ash can’t wait to get there! But first, they must sort out a pressing problem: Pignite’s Flamethrower has gotten very weak, and after some investigation, they discover something lodged in its nose. Jumping up and down doesn’t shake it loose, and even a scary spin in the sky courtesy of Charizard isn’t enough to banish this pesky problem. Finally, Iris tries tickling Pignite’s nose with a blade of grass, and it sneezes out the culprit: a shell from an earlier Bullet Seed attack!
781 | BW122 |
| ||
Outside Dragonspiral Tower, Ash, Cilan, and Iris meet Professor Cedric Juniper’s assistant Nick, who offers them a ride to meet the professor at the White Ruins. En route, he tells them the excavation team may have made a fantastic discovery, but won’t say any more.
782 | BW123 |
| ||
Team Plasma continues to implement its evil plan to steal the Light Stone and secure N. But Cilan and Iris are battling back hard, while Ash and N are trapped underground. N can sense the disturbance on the surface, as he hears the inner voices of his Pokémon friends screaming in distress. Ash decides they have to get out of there and help, and recalls one of Professor Cedric Juniper’s adventure rules: Never give up until the very end! And as N watches in astonishment, Ash brings out the rest of his Pokémon, and they all work together to dig a tunnel to the surface as N marvels at the bond between them.
783 | BW124 |
| ||
Team Plasma’s quest to awaken and control Reshiram continues, while our shackled heroes watch helplessly. Axew sneaks out of Iris’s hair, where it’s been safely concealed, and manages to free Iris and Cilan from the metal bands that hold them. Then, Concordia and Anthea appear from their mysterious fog and ask N to come back into hiding with them. But N vows to stay in the “real” world and fight for his ideals. Dr. Colress’s device has taken control of their Gothitelle and Gardevoir, along with the newly awakened Reshiram, and things are looking very bleak indeed.
784 | BW125 |
| ||
Ash is flying on the back of the Legendary Pokémon Reshiram and having a great time! Suddenly, they are confronted by Iris, who’s riding the Legendary Pokémon Zekrom and challenging them to battle! Zekrom unleashes a fearsome Thunderbolt that knocks Ash right out of the sky...

Aboard a ship on their way to the Kanto region, our heroes can’t wait for their first stop in the Decolore Islands: Honey Island, home of the world-famous sweet honey produced by the Combee that live there, as well as some of the sweetest dessert treats anyone has ever tasted!
786 | BW127 |
| ||
Leaving Honey Island and continuing via another ship, our heroes are surprised to see Porter, the chief purser from their previous ship, on board! Actually, it’s not the same person: this new Porter explains that he’s an identical cousin of the one they met previously. He then tells everyone of the upcoming Marine Cup Tournament, and Ash and Iris can’t wait to be part of it!
787 | BW128 |
| ||
As they cruise through the Decolore Islands, Ash, Iris, and Cilan notice a large number of Oshawott and Dewott on their ship. They learn from Porter that their next stop is Scalchop Island, which holds a competition every year in which Oshawott and Dewott compete for the title of Scalchop King. Naturally, Ash’s Oshawott wants to enter!
788 | BW129 |
| ||
From the ship, Ash, Iris, and Cilan see what looks like a giant Pokémon through the fog! No one else seems to have seen it, so they decide to ask around at their next stop, Grand Spectrala Island. A shopkeeper tells them about a rumor of such a sighting on a small island nearby, and they immediately run off to investigate before he can tell them the rumor is from ten years ago.
789 | BW130 |
| ||
As our heroes continue their tour of the Decolore Islands, their next stop is Torom Island, where they meet up with none other than Professor Oak! He’s come to catch a Rotom as part of a research paper he’s writing about the unusual Pokémon’s various form changes, triggered by entering certain kinds of electric devices. As he’s telling Ash, Iris, and Cilan all about Rotom and what it can do, the lights flicker and then go out. Nurse Joy explains that the Rotom are drawn to the tasty electricity from the island’s power grid, so lunchtime blackouts are a common occurrence.
790 | BW131 |
| ||
It’s a beautiful day at sea, and our heroes are enjoying the fresh air on deck when a Croconaw, Azumarill, and Octillery sneak aboard unnoticed. The three break into the ship’s supply room to steal boxes of food and discover Team Rocket attempting to do the same thing! The ship’s alarm sounds, and Porter says it can only mean one thing—pirates!
791 | BW132 |
| ||
Our heroes’ Decolore Island cruise continues, and the next exciting stop on their journey is Wayfarer Island! It’s a beautiful place that serves as a rest stop for all kinds of Pokémon during their migration. Ash, Iris, and Cilan head off to the mountains for some serious Pokémon-watching!
792 | BW133 |
| ||
What starts out as a beautiful day touring Capacia Island soon takes a turn for the worse. As our heroes follow the path across the island, Iris is distracted by a meadow full of beautiful flowers. As Ash and Cilan wait for Iris to decorate her hair with the blossoms, they spot a Dunsparce—a Pokémon known for being very cautious and hard to find—and Ash decides he has to catch it! Dunsparce responds with a Screech that knocks Iris’s flowers to the ground, where Ash accidentally crushes them. Trying to get away from the terrible noise, Axew bumps into Pikachu, giving the shy Dunsparce a chance to escape.
794 | BW135 |
| ||
Approaching the Capacia Island port after a long journey across the island, our heroes see something that looks like a shooting star—until it goes out of control and crashes into the ocean. Upon investigation of the debris, Ash finds an Amulet Coin, said to bring good luck to its owner. Excited, the three of them head to the Pokémon Center in town for a good night’s rest before they return to the ship.
795 | BW136 |
| ||
Our heroes have arrived on Harvest Island, famous for its delicious berries and the Grand Harvest Festival that celebrates them. Ash, Iris, and Cilan set off for the festival, and along the way, they come across a Pokémon they’ve never seen before—one that Ash’s Pokédex can’t identify! Ash just wants to catch it, of course, but when he challenges it to a battle, the electrical discharge from its frills knocks him flat, and its Trainer quickly runs up to apologize.

When Alexa shows our heroes a mysterious treasure map linked to their next stop on Frond Island, everyone is very excited! She tells them the story of a pirate, his Pokémon (Shiftry, Nidoking, Mismagius, Honchkrow, and Vulpix), and the unknown treasure his ship contained. Jessie, James, and Meowth, who have been eavesdropping on our heroes’ conversation, decide to wait patiently until the Twerps find the treasure so they can steal it—and Pikachu too, of course...
797 | BW138 |
| ||
Ash, Iris, Cilan, and Alexa continue their shipboard tour of the Decolore Islands. As they near Cave Island, Porter explains that the name comes from the island’s enormous cave, where many kinds of Pokémon live. They’re all set to explore the cave when Alexa realizes she has to go back for her recording equipment, and our heroes aren’t sure where to go.
798 | BW139 |
| ||
Our heroes are geared up for some serious stargazing—Alexa has told them about the Conley Comet, which is scheduled to make a rare appearance tonight! She’s excited to film this celestial event, including the Pokémon who always gather on the mountaintop to watch the comet approach.
799 | BW140 |
| ||
Spending time in an island Pokémon Center on their way to the Kanto region, our heroes take a moment to relax while Alexa does some work on an upcoming story. She asks them to check on her Gogoat, a well-behaved Pokémon who doesn’t require a lot of supervision—so Ash and the others aren’t paying attention when Gogoat meets a young boy named Tony, senses that the boy wants to go somewhere, and promptly sets off with Tony on its back!

While Alexa is getting her video equipment repaired, Ash, Iris, and Cilan take some time off to have a relaxing lunch on shore. At least, that’s the plan, but the Pokémon keep getting into little squabbles over the food. Eventually Emolga unleashes its Discharge attack to zap everyone who’s annoying it, prompting a scolding from Iris.
801 | BW142 |
| ||
As our heroes’ ship arrives at Paladin Island, Cilan is surprised to learn that his brothers Chili and Cress are on their way to the island as well. While Ash, Iris, and Cilan wait for them to arrive, they are approached by an Abomasnow. Cilan’s Pansage offers some of its berries to the towering Pokémon—and it responds by attacking! Its Trainer, an arrogant woman named Morana, scolds our heroes for getting too close to her Abomasnow, and it turns out she’s the reason Chili and Cress are coming to the island.
802 | BW143 |
| ||
As our heroes and Alexa wrap up their shipboard tour of the Decolore Islands, they spot several Pokémon native to the Kanto region. Porter says that’s a sure sign that their final stop, Vermilion City, is close by! They all have plans for Kanto: Ash can’t wait to get home, Iris and Cilan really want to see some Pokémon that are new to them, and Alexa has plans to interview Professor Oak.
803 | BW144 |
| ||
After seeing Iris and Cilan off at the train station, Ash, Pikachu, and Alexa head for Ash’s home in Pallet Town! Of course, Ash can’t wait to see all his Pokémon over at Professor Oak’s lab, but a bit of sensible advice from Alexa convinces our hero that his first stop should be to see his mother at home. That visit doesn’t last long, though—after Ash brings his mom up to date on recent adventures, she knows he can’t wait to see his Pokémon, and gives him the go-ahead to hurry over to Professor Oak’s lab, where Alexa is interviewing the professor. |
Trivia
- There is a shot of Delia (Ash's mother), Tracey, Professor Oak and Ash's Pokémon at Professor Oak's lab in this opening.
- The opening's footage comes from the Japanese theme song for Best Wishes 2, Be an Arrow.
- Also, some Pokémon from previous seasons can be seen in this opening.
- During the N arc, most of the shots change to fit the new arc.
- During the Decolore arc, a majority of the shots change to fit the new arc and the subtitle used to refer to it was "Pokémon: BW Adventures in Unova and Beyond".
- This is the first TPCi season to use two subtitles and the first season since Season 6 (whose first 12 episodes use the Master Quest subtitle due to taking place in Johto) to do so.
- This is the only one of such seasons not to change the opening theme to a different one in the middle of the season.
- Like the three 4Kids seasons that used two subtitles, this one is named by the second subtitle (the one which is used on the later episodes) on the official site and Australian DVD releases.
- This is the first season to not have any of the main characters Pokémon evolve.
