Trivia

  • Its name is derived from the chess piece "pawn" and a "poniard;" a small sharp dagger.
    • Its name could also come from the words "pawn" and "shard."
  • Pawniard, along with its post-evolution are the first Pokémon to have a Steel/Dark-type combination.
    • They are currently the only Pokémon to have this type combination.
  • Pawniard is known as the Sharp Edge Pokémon, possibly because it has Guillotine like appendages on its

chest, but its post-evolution is known as the blade Pokémon because it has curved structures on its chest, along with sword like blades on its forearms.

  • Pawniard appears to be based off a samurai from Japanese culture and a ninja.
