VS Pikachu is the fourth chapter of Pokémon Adventures: Volume 1. In this chapter, Red arrives at Pewter City and finds the city being terrorized by a wild Pikachu. Red defeats the Pikachu and captures it, but it still refuses to obey Red. Red decided to train it and encounters Blue, who challenges him to a contest to see who gets the Boulder Badge from Brock first.

- On the fifty ninth page of the volume, a word is mispelled healled instead of healed.
- Blue tells Red that his Pikachu will not work against Brock because he uses Rock-type Pokémon, but it is proven to be false, due to Rock-type Pokémon being able to be attacked by Electric-type moves.
