||

||
− | Oshawott is a mammalian sea-otter-like Pokémon. It has fur covering it entire body, with white fur on its face and arms, light blue fur on its torso and it has a dark blue tail, feet and ears. It also has an odd scallop attached to its stomach called a "scalchop," which is made of keratin (the same substance as human fingernails) and can be removed from the body for specific attacks, such as Razor Shell, and can be used to deflect attacks. Ash's Oshawott is known to be a clown-like Pokemon. |

+ | Oshawott is a bipedal, mammalian sea otter-like Pokémon. It has furs covering its entire body, with white fur on its face and arms, light-blue fur on its chubby torso and a dark blue tail, feet and ears. Its face features freckles on each cheek. It also has a tan-colored scallop shell attached to its stomach called a "scalchop", which is made of keratin (the same substance as human hair and fingernails). If broken, its scalchop can regrow. |
||
+ | ===Behavior=== |
||
− | Oshawott's first appearance in BW001 was as one of starter Pokémon that Trip could choose. However, Trip chose Snivy as his starter instead. When Trip's Snivy battled Ash's Pikachu, Oshawott snuck out of Professor Juniper's lab to watch. Oshawott followed Ash until Ash finally noticed him, whereupon Ash caught Oshawott in BW003, and added him to his team.He constantly falls in love with other Pokémon. |
||
+ | Oshawott are mostly mischievous and slightly aggressive. When they feel bored, they will play with their Scalchop, making a "pound" sound. Many trainers pick Oshawott at the beginnings of their journeys in Unova based on their cuteness. Though these Pokémon may act tough, they are also quick to cower and flee when situations become too intense for them to handle. |
||
+ | Oshawott are born with scalchops attached, and simple shells found on beaches will not suffice as substitutes. Scalchops consist primarily of a combination of chitin and calcium carbonate—their composition is nearly identical to that of an Oshawott's claws, which are normally retracted. These Scalchops are also as sharp as blades, and are used to slash at foes and keep them at bay. Oshawott also use scalchops to slice open hard Berries when eating and thick vines when traveling. Because they rely on their scalchops so heavily, Oshawott will guard them with their lives. Their unique weaponry and charming personalities make them a common choice for Unova trainers. |
||
− | In Japanese he only says mijuma or miju. Misato Fukuen lends his voice. In English, he only says oshawott, osha, or his other syllables parts of his name, in his duck-toned voice; he is voiced by Lisa Ortiz. Oshawott has always kept his scalchop protected, but uses it only for battle purposes or assistance. |

+ | ===Natural abilities=== |
||
+ | Oshawott's scalchop can be removed from their bellies and used as a sword for specific attacks, such as Razor Shell, and can also be used to deflect attacks. |

+ | ===Origin=== |
||
+ | Oshawott is based on a sea otter. The scalchop on its stomach may reference how real sea otters lay on their backs and hold the invertebrates they eat on their stomachs and sometimes use their shells as tools. Oshawott's scalchop may also be a reference to razor clams. As the Unova starters are based on historical empires, Oshawott is based on the Japanese Empire. |

Latest revision as of 06:13, 13 January 2024
Oshawott (Japanese: ミジュマル, Hepburn: Mijumaru) (AH-shuh-wot[1]) is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation V.
It is the Water-type First partner Pokémon of the Unova region and also one of the three First partner Pokémon of the ancient Sinnoh region known as Hisui in Pokémon Legends: Arceus alongside Rowlet and Cyndaquil.
Biology
Physiology
Oshawott is a bipedal, mammalian sea otter-like Pokémon.
Behavior
Oshawott are mostly mischievous and slightly aggressive. When they feel bored, they will play with their Scalchop, making a "pound" sound. Many trainers pick Oshawott at the beginnings of their journeys in Unova based on their cuteness. Though these Pokémon may act tough, they are also quick to cower and flee when situations become too intense for them to handle.
Oshawott are born with scalchops attached, and simple shells found on beaches will not suffice as substitutes.
Natural abilities
Oshawott's scalchop can be removed from their bellies and used as a sword for specific attacks, such as Razor Shell, and can also be used to deflect attacks.
Evolution
Oshawott evolves into Dewott at level 17. Dewott evolves into Samurott, the final form, at level 36.

Trivia
- Oshawott is the only Unova starter to have a different species than its direct evolution: Oshawott being the Sea Otter Pokémon, and Dewott being the Discipline Pokémon.
- Oshawott has the lowest total base stat of all Water-type First partner Pokémon.
- When Oshawott's English name was first revealed, it was often misspelled as "Oshawatt". This was seen on merchandise, such as tags on Pokémon Center plush toys from the Nintendo World Store in NY.
- Oshawott is one of the playable characters in PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, where he is a disciple of Samurott, the Keeper of the Cove Area. He's the one who is sent on an investigation of Pokémon disappearing and ending up in Wish Park.
- In Super Smash Bros., Oshawott is one of the Pokémon that can be freed from Poké Balls. During this time, it uses the move Surf.
- Oshawott is one of the collectable spirits in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
- Oshawott shares a trait with Scorbunny, as both hate being ignored and they always like being the center of attention.
- Oshawott is the first base First partner Pokémon to have a weapon outside of its body for attacking with. The second is Grookey.
- Oshawott ranked 9th, among all Pokémon, in the Pokémon of the Year 2021 poll by The Pokémon Company. It also ranked 4th among all Unova Pokémon.
Origin
Oshawott is based on a sea otter.
Etymology
Oshawott may come from otter, wash, and water.
Its Japanese name, Mijumaru, may be derived from 水 mizu (water) or 未熟 mijuku (naive), and 丸 maru (circle, likely either because of its plump appearance or because said kanji was often used in male or samurai names).
