Oak's Letter is a Key Item introduced in Generation IV. In the Sinnoh region games, Oak's Letter allows the player to access a special section of Route 224, leading them to the Flower Paradise where they can encounter and catch the Mythical Pokémon Shaymin. It is one of four Sinnoh based event items, alongside the Member Card, the Azure Flute and the Secret Key (Sinnoh).

Event Distribution[]

Platinum[]

Oak's Letter was released for Pokémon Platinum Version through Wi-Fi Events. Players in specific regions were able to obtain Oak's Letter on different dates:

  • Japan - April 18, 2009 to May 11, 2009
  • North America - September 28, 2009 to November 8, 2009
  • PAL - September 28, 2009 to November 8, 2009

Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl[]

Oak's Letter was released for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl through Mystery Gift. All players worldwide were able to obtain Oak's Letter from February 27, 2022, to March 27, 2022.

Trivia[]

  • When Shaymin is successfully captured through this event, it is listed as having a Fateful Encounter despite being caught in the wild. This is due to the fact that only a Fateful Encounter Shaymin can transform into Sky Forme.
  • Despite the fact that Nintendo programmed Oak's Letter into Diamond and Pearl, it was never officially distributed in those games.
    • Although the event was accessible through cheating in Diamond and Pearl, those games did not apply the Fateful Encounter tag to specific Pokémon, preventing Shaymin from transforming into Sky Forme.
  • When the Oak's Letter event is activated, Marley has different dialogue when the player speaks to her.
