Slaking's next appearance was in balance of power, where it fought against Ash's Grovyle. At first Slaking had the advantage using speed and strength to counter Grovyle's attacks whilst striking back with attacks of its own. Eventually Slaking sent Grovyle flying with a Hyper Beam. Exhausted but determined to keep going, Grovyle picked itself up and activated its Overgrow ability. Thank's to Overgrow, Grovyle's Grass type moves were stronger than before and when the two Pokemon lunged, ready to deliver the final blows with Focus Punch and Leaf Blade, Grovyle hit Slaking first, forcing it to lose focus on its Focus Punch, therefore inflicting minimal damage. However, although Slaking's Focus Punch had failed to be used, the punch itself, but not the power behind it, hit Grovyle causing enough damage to cause the Grass type to wince in pain. Slaking smiled triumphantly but then the pain of Grovyle's Leaf Blade overwhelmed it and it fainted.

Norman's Slaking was Norman's most powerful Pokémon.

Biography

Slaking lived in Norman's greenhouse when it wasn't being used in battle. It's first appearance was in Love, Petalburg Style, where it was used to defeat Team Rocket, sending them blasting off with a devastating Focus Punch.

Slaking's next appearance was in Balance of Power, where it fought against Ash's Grovyle. At first Slaking had the advantage, using speed and strength to counter Grovyle's attacks. Eventually Slaking sent Grovyle flying with a powerful Hyper Beam. Exhausted but determined to keep going, Grovyle picked itself up and activated its Overgrow ability. Thank's to Overgrow, Grovyle's Grass type moves were stronger than before and when the two Pokémon lunged, ready to deliver the final blows with Focus Punch and Leaf Blade, Grovyle hit Slaking first, forcing it to lose focus on its Focus Punch, therefore inflicting minimal damage.

Since then Slaking has made a cameo appearance, watching May battle in the Wallace Cup and was also seen in a flashback where Max was grooming it.

Trivia

 • Interestingly, Norman's Slaking does not seem to be hindered by its special ability, Truant. Actually it's never even been implied that it has the ability, despite Truant being the only ability Slaking can use.
 • When Grovyle delivered its final blow to Slaking with Leaf Blade, Slaking's fist was still glowing, even though the Leaf Blade should have stopped Focus Punch from working. This also happens when Grovyle uses Bullet Seed in Slaking's face while it's charging up a Focus Punch.
