Legendary Pokémon, as the name suggests, are Pokémon of special legends. They can also be Pokémon illusions. They are very rare and powerful Pokémon, most being unique to only one region. Legendary Pokémon can also be seen as mythological, such as the Sinnoh Legendaries that shaped the world. Legendary Pokémon can only be found once per game file (unless using a cheating device). In the show it is assumed that there are more than one of some legendary throughout the Pokémon World. They are easy to beat but at a high level and very hard to catch.

Strange knowing is that Mewtwo is actually the clone of Mew, but Mewtwo comes first in the Pokédex. Mewtwo number in the National Pokédex is #150, that of Mew is #151. It can be because Mew is a mythical Pokémon and it is rarely seen by humans while Mewtwo has been created by humans through DNA.

Despite being Mew's clone, Mewtwo actually comes first in the Pokédex. Mewtwo is #150 in the National Pokédex and Mew is #151

The Tower Duo
  +

  +
The Tower Duo are the two legendary bird-like Pokémon, Ho-Oh a Fire/Flying dual-type Rainbow Pokémon and Lugia a Psychic/Flying dual-type Diving Pokémon. Ho-Oh and Lugia are considered to be a legendary duo Pokémon in the Johto region. Ho-Oh is known as "the guardian of the skies" and Lugia is known as "the guardian of the seas". Ho-Oh was the first legendary Pokémon that has been appeared in the anime, knowing that he has appeared in the very first episode of the Pokémon series.

In the games, the trio roam Johto after being discovered in the Brass Tower. In Pokémon Crystal, however, after discovering them in brass tower, only Raikou and Entei can be found by roaming. Suicine will be faced in the tin tower after disbanding Team Rocket in the radio tower after receiving Clear Bell from the director after winning. In Pokémon Colosseum, they were captured by Cipher and turned into Shadow Pokémon. Finally, in FireRed and LeafGreen, one of the trio would roam Kanto depending on the Starter Pokémon chosen by the player. In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, You have to follow Suicune around until you meet him outside Bill's house. You can only catch Suicune in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver if you have beaten Lance and the Elite Four. Raikou and Entei will roam Johto. Raikou, Entei and Suicune are much like the bird trio except that Suicine is a Water type, although it was originally an Ice type, due to the fact that it died (melted into the water type) in the fire in the Burned Tower and Ho-oh revived it. In the game Eusine is after Suicune it somehow always escapes him.
+
The history of Ho-Oh and Lugia are similiar, long time ago two towers were built in Ecruteak City, the Bell Tower and the Brass Tower. Ho-Oh resides in the Bell Tower while Lugia resides in the Brass Tower. Several years later, the Brass Tower was caught in a great fire causing Lugia to fled the tower to the Whirl Island. The sudden burn of the Brass Tower caused Ho-Oh also to fled away to search for a pure-hearted trainer. In the video game series, Ho-Oh is the main mascot of the Pokémon Gold series and Lugia is the main mascot of the Pokémon Silver series. However there is a change in both of the games if it goes about how to obtain them. In Pokémon Gold video game you can capture Ho-Oh after obtaining the Rainbow Wing after that you've disbanded Team Rocket from the Radio Tower, but in Pokémon Silver after defeating the Pokémon League you can obtain the Rainbow Wing from a citizen in Pewter City. In Pokémon Crystal you will obtain the Rainbow Wing after capturing all the three legendary Pokémon: Raikou, Entei and Suicune. In the Pokémon Silver video game you can capture Lugia after obtaining the Silver Wing after that you've disbanded Team Rocket from the Radio Tower, but in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Crystal after beating the Pokémon League you can gain the Silver Wing from a citizen in Pewter City. You can obtain Ho-Oh in Pokémon Gold at the Bell Tower and Lugia at the Whirl Islands.

Anime Appearances
+
Ho-Oh and Lugia also reappear in the Pokémon LeafGreen and FireRed and Pokémon Emerald series but throughout a event. Ho-Oh and Lugia both are located at Naval Rock through the MysticTicket. Lugia plays a major role in the Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness video game series as Shadow Lugia, this Lugia could be purified, contrary to what many people thought at first. Ho-Oh can be obtained in Pokémon Colosseum for purifying all shadow Pokémon in the vide game. Ho-Oh and Lugia also re-appear in the Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver video game series, the plot of to face them has been remained the same but in order to obtain Lugia required a Silver Wing and also a Tidal Bell, in order to obtain Ho-Oh it requires a Clear Bell and Rainbow Wing. It is said that Ho-Oh will give a person eternal happiness if someone sees him.
The three Legendary Beasts have appeared together in the movie Zoroark: Master of Illusions as the guardians of Crown City. In the movie they appeared as Shiny Pokémon. They all have had solo appearances in movies and specials (Not including Raikou who has never made an solo movie appearance). However, each beast did, in fact, make at least one appearance in the anime.

Entei appeared in Entei at Your Own Risk.

Raikou briefly appeared in Houndoom's Special Delivery.

Suicune appeared the most out of all the beasts, being in three episodes: Don't Touch That 'Dile, For Ho-Oh the Bells Toll, and Drifloon on the Wind!. Entei also appeared in the movie The Spell of The Unown as the Unown's illusion. Raikou played a very important role in some Pokémon Chronicles episodes. Suicune also played an important role in the movie Pokémon 4Ever.

The Tower Duo
+
Although the Tower Duo, Lugia and Ho-oh creating the three legendary Pokemon which is Lugia's three legendary birds and Ho-oh's three legendary beasts.
Ho-Oh and Lugia are two legendary bird-like Pokémon that were introduced in Johto, although technically Ho-oh is introduced in the very first anime episode, when Ash Ketchum sees it. Ho-Oh is a Fire/Flying type Pokémon, while Lugia is a Psychic/Flying Pokémon.

The history of Ho-Oh and Lugia are similar. Long ago, two towers were built in Ecruteak City. Ho-Oh perched on the top of one tower (Bell Tower), while Lugia perched on the other one (Brass Tower). However, several years later, the Brass Tower was caught in a great fire, causing Lugia to fly away to the Whirl Islands and this also made Ho-Oh fly away to search for a pure-hearted trainer.

Celebi
  +

  +
Celebi has been referred to as "new Mew" although, Celebi and Mew have no relationship with each other. Although mythical, Celebi is a legendary Pokémon which mainly resides at the Ilex Forest west of Azalea Town. This Pokémon is more an event Pokémon, which it can only be obtained through events. Celebi was around the time of the release of the Generation II video games called as the most rarest Pokémon due to the fact that he was only available for one event which was in Japan exclusive for Pokémon Crystal. Now known, Celebi acts more as a chain to unlock other events in different video games. In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver after obtaining a Celebi through a event, it will let the player travel through time to show the past between Silver and Giovanni which contains the actual hate of Silver against Team Rocket and ihis though attitude. In Pokémon Black and White it can let you obtain Zorua if you transfer Celebi from HeartGold and SoulSilver through Pokémon Black and Pokémon White. Furthermore, it is also known to be the mysterious Pokémon hidden in the mysterious GS Ball. Celebi also makes a appearance in Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness.

Ho-Oh plays a bigger role in the Generation II games and is referred to as the savior of the legendary beasts. After the player finds the Rainbow Wing, Ho-Oh can be obtained atop the Bell Tower. It, too, appeared on Navel Rock as an event Pokémon and as a reward for purifying all Shadow Pokémon in Pokémon Colosseum.

The Lake Trio consists of Uxie, Azelf and Mesprit. When the universe was created, Arceus created Pokémon to protect and embody spirit. As a result, Uxie was created to protect and embody knowledge, Azelf was created to protect and embody willpower and Mesprit was created to protect and embody emotion.

In the Pokémon Platinum series they are playing a much larger role than in Diamond and Pearl. After that Cyrus takes control of Dialga and Palkia the three lake guardians arrived at the peak of Mt. Coronet to stop Cyrus and his plans, but their power is not enough to do. After that Giratina showed up and opened the Distortion World which Cyrus enters and after the player and Cynthia also enters to stop Cyrus the enter as well to help the player to achieve his/her path to be to Cyrus and Giratina.

In the games, Team Galactic's Commanders capture the Lake Trio for Cyrus and he uses their powers to craft a Red Chain in order to take control of Dialga in Pokémon Diamond or Palkia in Pokémon Pearl and recreate the universe without spirit. In Pokémon Platinum, the Lake Trio's role is extended. When Cyrus takes control of Palkia and Dialga, the Lake Trio try to stop them, but their power is not enough to do so. The Lake Trio also helps the player in the Distortion World to reach Giratina.

After stopping Cyrus at Mt. Coronet, the three lake guardians are available to meet at the three lakes. To meet and capture Uxie he's waiting at Lake Acuity, to meet and capture Azelf he's waiting at Lake Valor, to only meet Mesprit he waiting at Lake Verity but unfortunately he cannot be battled after you've talked to him, he flees and is roaming around Sinnoh.

In Generation VI, 2 new Legendary Pokémon have been introduced so far. This could be considered as the Letter Duo, since they represent the two letters of the alphabet X and Y.clr

It has still been unofficial if there is a third legendary Pokémon that is part of the Generation Duo, however, the two confirmed legendary Pokémon that are probably part of the title or that the title is true are Xerneas yet to known-type Pokémon and Yveltal also a yet to known-type Pokémon. The two legendary Pokémon are also the main mascots of the upcoming video games Pokémon X and Y which Xerneas represents Pokémon X and Yveltal represents Pokémon Y. The reason why the two Pokémon have been considered the Gene Duo is due to the reason that they represent the letters of the two gender chromosomes, X and Y. It can also be infered that Xerneas is female, as females have the XX chromosome set; and that Yveltal is male, as males have the XY chromosome set.

The third member of the trio is an artificial Pokémon which only appears in Pokémon Live! called MechaMew2

Black Kyurem is obtained by fusing Zekrom's genes with Kyurem that is only in the Pokémon Black 2 video game and White Kyurem is obtained by fusing Reshiram's genes with Kyurem that is only in Pokémon White 2. Kyurem can only change into those forms when the player has acquired the DNA Splicers. It is unknown if the transformation is painful for the dragons.

Anime AppearancesEdit

In the anime, Zekrom first appeared in In The Shadow of Zekrom! shooting a powerful lightning bolt at Pikachu, causing Pikachu to lose its ability to use electric attacks.

Reshiram and Zekrom later both appeared in MS014: Pokémon The Movie: Black - Victini & Reshiram / Pokémon The Movie: White - Victini & Zekrom. Zekrom served the Hero of the Ideals and sided with Damon in Black, while Reshiram served the Hero of Truths and sided with Damon in White.

In Black/White 2 it is revealed that Reshiram and Zekrom were both a single Pokemon that followed twin heroes in bringing an ancient, conflicted Unova into peace. The twins however eventually ended having opposite perspectives, one believing in ideals and one in truth. The Pokemon then split giving birth to Reshiram and Zekrom, while Kyurem was a left byproduct.

Kyurem is the title character in Kyurem VS The Sword of justice. Keldeo arrogantly challenged him, only to lose horribly against the powerful Legendary. Terrakion attacks Kyurem with Hyper Beam in an attempt to stop him, but Kyurem freezes all 3 Swords of Justice with Ice Burn. Keldeo ran away in horror, but Kyurem knew that the battle was not over. After relentlessly pursuing Keldeo, who was now traveling with Ash and co. Keldeo re-challenges Kyurem. Although it was much more formindablr and also turned into his resolute form, Keldeo still lost after a Secret Sword-Freeze Shock collision, and admitted defeat. Kyurem respected Keldeo for saving it's friends, and complemented his sword, before leaving.

It has still been unofficial if there is a third legendary Pokémon that is part of the Generation Duo (Japanese: ジーンデュオ Jīnirashion Duo), however, the two confirmed legendary Pokémon that are probably part of the title or that the title is true are Xerneas yet to known-type Pokémon and Yveltal also a yet to known-type Pokémon.

Semi-LegendaryEdit

Several Pokémon are often disputed as to whether or not they are Legendary and are often mistaken as true Legendaries by fans.

ListEdit

 • Unown - Unown appear to have a Legendary status but are incredibly weak and have low stats.
 • Deoxys Copy - though they are copies created by a Legendary, they are very weak and cannot fight alone.
 • Phione - Phione is bred from a legendary, but it has never been confirmed if it is legendary or not, some sources saying it is, while other denying that it it.
 • Rotom - Rotom is often thought of as Legendary due to its multiple forms and appearing in a special event, as well as  there only being one in-game. It is also labeled as a Legendary in the DP Pokedex Book, although the same book has several other errors (numbering in the double digits) both major and minor.
