Trivia
- Morty's name may be a play on the word MORTUARY, which is a funeral home, because he is a ghost type trainer. Similarly, it could come from the Latin adjective meaning 'dead', mortuus.
- In HeartGold and SoulSilver the player has to visit the Burned Tower and awaken the Legendary Beast Trio before challenging Morty to a Gym Battle.
- Morty is the only male Ghost-type specialist as Agatha, Phoebe, Fantina, and Shauntal are all females.
- In his Generation IV artwork the skull on his scarf is the same as the skull on Duskull's head.
- He is the only HG/SS Gym Leader to use two of the same Pokémon in his rematch.
