Monferno (Japanese: モウカザル Moukazaru) is a Fire/Fighting-type Pokémon. Its special ability is Blaze. It is a good for beginner Pokémon trainers. When Chimchar evolves, it will want to learn Mach Punch and that move will be a great help in the first Gym battle with Roark.

Appearance

Monferno appears to be a chimpanzee even though he's got a tail with a flame at the tip of its tail much like Charmander and its evolutions. It also possesses beige coloring on its belly, hands, feet, mouth, and ears. Monferno also has a blue and red marking on its face along with small fangs, and a patch of red on his butt at the base of his tail.

Special Abilities

Monferno has the ability Blaze along with the hidden ability Iron Fist. Blaze boosts Monferno's Fire-type moves by 30% when it is low on HP. Iron Fist boosts the power of punching moves by 20%.

In Anime

Monferno appears in DP088: Camping It Up! where it was one of the Pokémon being trained by Angie. Ash's Chimchar evolved into a Monferno in DP132: Evolving Strategies! during his battle with Paul.

Evolution

Monferno is the evolved form of Chimchar as of level 14. Monferno evolves into Infernape at level 36.
