Michael is the main character of Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness. Michael's partner Pokémon is Eevee, who can evolve into one of the five evolution available during XD, Jolteon with the Thunderstone, Vaporeon with the Waterstone, Flareon with the Firestone, Espeon with the Sun Shard, and Umbreon with the Moon Shard. He has a younger sister named Jovi.

Professor Krane later entrusts him with the Snag Machine, a machine capable of capturing, or snagging, Shadow Pokémon from their owners and purify them by opening their hearts. Aidan gives Michael five Poké Balls to start snagging Pokémon. After that, a crime syndicate called Cipher kidnap Professor Krane, leading Michael to follow them to save the professor.
