Marshal is the fourth member of Unova's Elite Four who specializes in using Fighting-type Pokémon.

Appearance[]

Marshal is a young, muscular man, with orange-accented short hair and eyebrows. He wears a sleeveless teal jacket, teal bands around his biceps, orange fingerless gloves, a black belt around his waist, as well as orange trackpants with teal outlines. He does not wear shoes.

Personality[]

Possessing a very Choleric oriented nature, Marshal is formidable in his training and various stances. Not a type for comedy, Marshal is extremely strict to both himself and the Pokémon he trains. A common trait for Trainers of his type, Marshal has a bulky and disciplined figure similar to that of a professional athlete.

Etymology[]

Being a Fighting-type expert, Marshal's name comes from "martial arts".

Biography[]

Games[]

Black and White[]

In Black and White, the player character challenges Marshal as part of the Pokémon League. During this, the player character finds that Marshal used to be like Cheren until the Champion Alder changed his ways. Later, Marshal arrives at the Victory Road Cave and gives Cheren advice that Alder had once given to him about seeking true strength.

Black 2 and White 2[]

In Black 2 and White 2, Marshal appears at the entrance to Twist Mountain from Route 8. He says that the front has collapsed, and you can't enter. He will stay there, until you face him in the Elite Four. After you complete the game, Marshal will still be there, but he will leave shortly after, after giving you a short speech. He then goes back to the Elite Four, waiting for you to challenge him.

Trivia[]

Battle against Marshal

The Battle against Marshal.

  • His Throh and Sawk both know Retaliate in the game.
  • In Pokémon Black and White, Marshal's signature Pokémon, Conkeldurr, is not his highest-leveled in the first battle. This is presumably done to prevent his Mienshao from being under-leveled, as his Conkeldurr is his highest leveled in all subsequent battles, and in Pokémon Black and White 2.
  • In the first battle with Marshal all his Pokémon know a Rock-type move. Three of them know Stone Edge and his Mienshao knows Rock Slide.
  • Marshal's name comes from "martial arts". Renbu, his Japanese name, comes from 練武 (renbu, practicing martial arts).
