Mandarin Island Trainer is an unnamed trainer who was traveling on Mandarin Island when Ash Ketchum challenged him to a Pokémon battle. Among his Pokémon are a Tauros and a highly experienced Persian that knows Thunderbolt.

During his battle with Ash, Squirtle managed to defeat Persian with a Skull Bash after enduring its Thunderbolt. The trainer then used Tauros who quickly defeated Squirtle but lost to Charizard's Flamethrower even though it used Take Down on it first.
