Oooh, you wicked little Trainer! You're just too much you know? You're so amusing that I just want to burn you up where you stand!"

Malva from Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, after defeating her for the 2nd time

Malva is a member of Kalos's Elite Four. She is also a news reporter for the Holo Caster and a former member of Team Flare. She is the Fire-type Elite Four trainer.

Appearance[]

Malva has slightly tanned skin and a pink hair with a ponytail and curls on her shoulders. Her eyes are hidden behind a pair of red-shaded sunglasses. She wears a black turtleneck that cuts of at the navel and red and black jeans with several diamond shaped cut outs at the front revealing some parts of her legs, as well as black high-heeled shoes.

Personality[]

Malva is an ill-tempered and self-absorbed person. She will scoff rudely at the player upon entering the halls of the Kalos Elite Four, and when defeated she will pout and claim that she wishes to harm the player, whom she hypocritically calls "wicked". However, Malva reveals that she abandoned Team Flare as she was disgusted by how Xerosic was using Emma as Essentia and even teamed up with the player to stop him. Nonetheless, she still made constant threats to burn them, it is unknown if she was just joking about that.

Etymology[]

The name Malva comes from "magma", "lava", and "mal-" (a prefix meaning "bad," as she was formerly a member of Team Flare). It could also come from Malva, a genus of plants.

Her Japanese name, Pakira, is literally Pachira, a genus of tropical trees. It could also include 嫌い (kirai, hatred, possibly referring to burning hatred and to the fact that she used to be a Team Flare member).

Biography[]

Games[]

X and Y[]

Malva first appears as the Holo Caster news reporter reporting the attack of Poké Ball Factory.

She is not seen again until the end of the main story, where she appears in the main hall of Pokémon League (Kalos), commenting about the destruction of Team Flare done by the player before retreating to the Blazing Chamber. The player character will battle against Malva since she is a part of the Elite Four. For her battle, she uses four Fire-type Pokémon.

At the post-story Looker Chapter 4, Malva is seen again as the news reporter talking about the crime that occurred in Lumiose Museum, and soon about Poké Ball thefts being seemingly everywhere in Lumiose City.

At Looker Chapter 5, Malva appears at Hotel Richissime for a battle, and goes to the Lysandre Labs to unlock the "hidden floor" to the player afterwards.

Like other Gym Leaders, Elite Four and the Champion, Malva can be rematched as Duchess in Battle Chateau.

Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire[]

In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, she appears several times on the Holo Caster, presenting news.

Trivia[]

  • Malva's skin-tight pants with the diamond-shaped cut outs running down her legs closely resemble the pants worn by the demonic character Ghirahim from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
  • Her name is a reference to malva pudding, a South African baked dessert.
