The Magikarp Salesman (Japanese: コイキング売り Koiking Salesman), inspired from the one in the Generation I games, is a character who sells primarily Magikarps or Pokémon meant to fool his customers, first seen in the Kanto region.

Biography

Anime

In the anime, he has appeared numerous times, selling James and Jessie ripoff Pokémon.

Games

In the games, he sells Magikarps for 500 Pokédollars at the Pokémon Center near Mt. Moon.

James bought Hoppip from the Magikarp Saleman thinking it was a Chimecho. After the disguise it had fell apart, it flew off.

James traded Victreebel for a Weepinbell from the Magikarp Salesman during one of his scams. That Weepinbell evolved into Victreebel soon after, they both were kicked away by their owners and bumbed into each other falling in love and ran away together.

James bought Gyarados when it was still a Magikarp. When James threw Magikarp into the ocean, it evolved into Gyarados. Eventually it used Dragon Rage hurling Ash, Misty, Brock, and Team Rocket away and it was never seen again.
