Green

Template:Main Game CharacterGreen (ブルー Blue) also known as Leaf (リーフ Leaf) is the female character in the Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen games. Her male counterpart is Red in the same games. Her equivalent character in the Special Manga is Blue (or Green in English).

Leaf is a young girl from Pallet Town. The local Pokémon expert, Professor Oak, stops her from leaving town one day, saying that she needs a Pokémon for her protection. Upon doing this, Oak takes her to his lab and allows Green to choose one of three starter Pokémon, along with his grandson Blue.

After spending some time with her Pokémon, and returning to Pallet Town, Professor Oak gives both her and Blue a Pokédex so that they can fill it with information on Pokémon. This is the start of Green's Pokémon journey throughout the Kanto region.

Throughout the course of the game, Green will catch and train Pokémon, challenge Gym Leaders, battle the criminal organization Team Rocket, and on a number of occasions, face her rival Blue, all toward the goal of being a Pokémon Champion.

Origins

Green apparently was supposed to be in the original, Japanese Red and Green versions of the game. In Nintendo's Official Guidebook, Green appears alongside Red and the rival Blue. There was even some concept art for her character.

The reason she was left out of the games is unknown. It is possible that because of the limits in the game card, they left her out since they could not feature optional characters. Though it could have been possible to feature each character in a different version.

Trivia

• Green is the only playable character from the games not to be featured in the anime. This is not including the playable characters from Pokemon Black and White.
• In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, one of Jigglypuff's alternate costumes includes Green's hat. In opposition, Pikachu can wear Red's hat.
• Green is portrayed in the latter half of the There Will Be Brawl live fan parody.
