Green, also known as Leaf, is the female character in Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version. Her male counterpart is Red in the same games.

Appearance[]

Green is a sweet, young girl with slightly messy dark brown hair that flows down to her lower back.

She also wears a yellow bag.

FireRed and LeafGreen[]

She wears a sleeveless teal, sometimes cyan, shirt with a bit of black, a short pinkish-red skirt, cyan slouch socks, and white shoes with a pinkish-red stripe in the middle. Like many Pokémon protagonists, Green wears a white bucket hat with a pinkish-red Poke Ball logo and black wristbands much like Red. She carries a bright yellow messenger bag.

Green's hair is slightly messier than her original manga design and wears a sleeveless black dress with a bit of cyan under a pair of shorts that are also cyan. She wears black shoes with cyan soles in addition to a yellow purse and white wristbands. The outfit is a reference to her original design that was shown in Japanese material.

Personality[]

Although Green appeared in Pokémon Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version as a playable character, her personality was challenging to discern due to it being almost completely non-existent. This was made worse by the fact that she never appeared if Red was chosen as a playable character instead of her, in addition to the fact that Red is actually the canon protagonist and that Green never appeared with him in Sun and Moon. In fact, due to her being Red's counterpart, Green's personality was, for all intents and purposes, identical to his (i.e. quiet and compassionate).

However, Green was finally given a personality when she appeared in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! years later. In those games, she is cheerful, friendly, determined, and energetic; additionally, she is also a powerful, focused Trainer that is respectful to her opponents. However, despite Green's positive traits, she also has a dark side: she is heavily implied to have an obsession with Mewtwo, even getting jealous when she finds out that the player character has already caught the Pokémon by the time they meet her. This is shown further when Green asks the player character if they want to become "one of her Pokémon" together with Mewtwo after she is beaten in battles.

GREENTRAINER

In FireRed and LeafGreen, Green is a young girl from Pallet Town. The local Pokémon expert, Professor Oak, stops her from leaving town one day, saying that she needs a Pokémon for her protection. Upon doing this, Oak takes her to his lab and allows Leaf to choose one of three starter Pokémon, along with his grandson and her rival Blue.

After spending some time with her Pokémon, and returning to Pallet Town, Professor Oak gives both her and Blue a Pokédex so that they can fill it with information on Pokémon. This is the start of Green's Pokémon journey throughout the Kanto region.

Trivia[]

  • Green apparently was supposed to be in the original, Japanese version of Pokémon Red and Green versions of the game. In Nintendo's Official Guidebook, Green appears alongside Red and the rival Blue. There was even some concept art for her character.
  • In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, one of Jigglypuff's alternate costumes includes Green's hat. In opposition, Pikachu can wear Red's hat.
  • She is Red's alternate color swap in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
  • Green was never given an official name until Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!. This is because she was only a playable character in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, and her name was first used in Pokémon Adventures manga.
  • Green makes a 3D appearance in Pokémon Colosseum, despite FireRed and LeafGreen being released after Colosseum. Green is only seen in Battle mode, when using a FireRed or LeafGreen save file with the Female option saved to either register a team from Green's party or to participate in a Link Battle using a team from her currently saved party. Green returns in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness under the same save file conditions, but only for Link Battles.
