Larvesta is a larval Pokémon that resembles a moth caterpillar. It has a fluffy mane of white fluff surrounding its head. Protruding from is white fur are five blazing flare-like appendages. Underneath the white fur, its face is black, as well as its six stubby legs, and it has light blue ovular eyes with tiny black pupils. Its backside is segmented and brownish-tan in color.
It spews fire from its five horns as a deterrent against predators.

Larvesta evolves later than any Bug-type Pokémon, evolving at level 59. In fact, it evolves later than any other Pokemon except Hydreigon (though Deino evolves into Zweilous nine levels earlier than Larvesta).
Despite its Pokédex entries saying it encases itself in a cocoon of fire when it evolves, it does not have an evolved form that is based on a cocoon.
Due to this, Larvesta is the only larva-like Pokémon that skips the cocoon stage.
Larvesta is the only Bug/Fire type besides its evolution Volcarona.
Larvesta is based on a moth caterpillar. It may also draw inspiration from the Japanese kaiju Mothra.
Larvesta's name comes from larvae and Vesta, a Roman goddess represented by fire.
