Koga's Golbat battled Ash's Charmander. Golbat used its speed to try and gain the advantage and also used Screech to lower Charmander's defensive abilities but was defeated when Charmander hit it with Ember and then used Fire Spin to knock it out, resulting in Ash winning the match and also the Soul Badge.

• In the Japanese version, Koga's Golbat was voiced by Shin-ichiro Miki who plays James while in the English version, Eric Stuart who plays both Brock and James voiced Koga's Golbat. Miki would later go on to voice all the Zubat, Golbat and Crobat that appear in both the Japanese and English-language versions of the anime.
