Games
Red, Green, Blue & Yellow
He is the top trainer of the Fighting Dojo in Saffron City - which was a former Gym, with him as the Gym Leader. If you beat him, he gives you a Fighting-type Pokémon: Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan, but the player can only choose one of the two.
Anime
He studied under Chuck's teachings. Once, he encountered a Tyrogue abandoned by its trainer and tried to befriend it, but Tyrogue just kept getting into more and more trouble. Kiyo gained an opportunity and fought with Tyrogue in a hand-to-hand battle and won. Tyrogue gained respect and became its friend.
