Karen (Japanese:カリン Karin) is a Dark-type Pokémon user and is one of the Johto Elite Four. She appears in HeartGold, SoulSilver, Gold, Silver, and Crystal. In G/S/C, her team will have Umbreon, Vileplume, Houndoom, Gengar and Murkrow. In Heart Gold and Soul Silver, she'll still have the same Pokémon, but after the player gathers all badges from Kanto and Johto she'll have a more powerful team which is composed of Weavile, Spiritomb, Honchkrow, Umbreon, Houndoom and Absol.

Biography
She wears a short black dress with a sweetheart neckline and black flats.

There are two different sides to Karen in the games she is seen. She is a kind-hearted and skilled Pokémon trainer who specializes in dark types. Her policy was there's no such thing as weak or strong Pokémon, people should try to win with their favorite, in her case, her Umbreon. She was the second strongest trainer in Johto. Her party was Umbreon, Vileplume, Gengar, Murkrow, and Houndoom. In HeartGold and SoulSilver she returned with the same attitude and same party but had new moves and a new outfit. When defeated, she will use a different team consisting of Umbreon, Houndoom, Spiritomb, Absol, Weavile, and Honchkrow.

 +
Crystal
In the manga she was one of the masked children kidnapped at birth by the mask of ice and trained to do his bidding and she was cruel, mean and psychotic. Her only Pokémon were her Umbreon and two Murkrows.

 +
Karen's appearance remains the same as it is in Gold and Silver.

She wears a yellow spaghetti strap cropped tank top with a sweetheart neckline edged in black that reveals her flat midriff, and white capri pants with yellow beads. She also wears yellow high heels on her feet. Her tank top has four straps, two on each side that strap over her bare shoulders.

Etymology
 +

The name Karen could be an anagram of the word "darken", excluding the 'D'. It could also incorporate "scare".
 +
 +
Her Japanese name, Karin, could originate from Kali, a Hindu goddess associated with night and destruction. Following the plant-based naming of most characters, it could also literally be 榠樝 (karin, the Japanese name for the Chinese quince).

Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled trainers should try to win with their favorites. I like your style. You understand what's important. Go on—the Champion is waiting.

Karen, Pokémon Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver.

Karen is a Dark-type Pokémon user and is one of the members of Johto Elite Four.

Appearance

Karen is a slim young woman who has silvery-blue eyes and long wavy silvery-blue hair with a centre parting that reaches past her waist with two long bangs that frame her face.

Gold and Silver

She wears a short black dress with a sweetheart neckline and black flats.

Crystal

Karen's appearance remains the same as it is in Gold and Silver.

HeartGold and Soul Silver

She wears a yellow spaghetti strap cropped tank top with a sweetheart neckline edged in black that reveals her flat midriff, and white capri pants with yellow beads. She also wears yellow high heels on her feet. Her tank top has four straps, two on each side that strap over her bare shoulders.

Personality

There are two different sides to Karen in the games she is seen. She is a kind-hearted and skilled Pokémon trainer who specializes in dark types. Her policy is there's no such thing as weak or strong Pokémon, people should try to win with their favorite, in her case, her Umbreon.

Etymology

The name Karen could be an anagram of the word "darken", excluding the 'D'. It could also incorporate "scare".

Her Japanese name, Karin, could originate from Kali, a Hindu goddess associated with night and destruction. Following the plant-based naming of most characters, it could also literally be 榠樝 (karin, the Japanese name for the Chinese quince).

Biography

Games

Gold and Silver

Her team will have Umbreon, Vileplume, Houndoom, Gengar and Murkrow.

Crystal

Her role in Crystal is the same as it is in Gold and Silver.

HeartGold and SoulSilver

She has the same Pokémon, but after the player character gathers all badges from Kanto and Johto she'll have a more powerful team which is composed of Weavile, Spiritomb, Honchkrow, Umbreon, Houndoom and Absol.
