James' Amoonguss is the second Pokemon that James obtained in the Unova Region. James' Amoonguss first appeared in "BW111: New Places... Familiar Faces!", debuting along with Jessie's Frillish when Team Rocket attacked Ash and his friends for the first time since "Operation Tempest" and the temporary retreat back to Kanto. It was used to capture Ash's Pikachu and Natasha's Tepig, but was defeated by Ash's Unfezant. James's Amoonguss is often used alongside Jessie's Woobat in a couple of episodes.

• Excluding his temporary Pokemon, Amoonguss is James' fourth Grass type. Amoonguss is also his third Poison type.
• It was the only Unova Pokémon that was capable of taking down Ash's Pikachu with one hit from Body Slam.
• Unlike James' past Grass type Pokémon, Amoonguss does not show any special kind of affection when it is sent out.
