Iris' Excadrill is the second Pokémon that was caught and is currently owned by Iris.

Biography

Excadrill was first revealed to Ash and Cilan in BW009: The Bloom Is on Axew!, when Iris sent him out so he could assist in rescuing Axew from a wild Scolipede. However, he refused to help and stayed in his inactive state. Iris then rescued Axew herself. Excadrill came out of his inactive state in order to fight the Scolipede, after it accidently kicked him. His powerful attacks such as Drill Run and Dig sent Scolipede flying into the sky. Excadrill then gave a victory cry before returning to inactive state.

Iris Drilbur

Excadrill as a Drilbur

Excadrill made a brief appearance in BW020, where Iris sent him out in order to help find Ash and Pikachu, who had fallen down a hole created by the Sunglasses Sandile. He refused to help and so stayed in its inactive state, thereby forcing Iris to recall him.

Excadrill was sent out again in BW027 in order to fend off a flock of irate Swoobat. However, once again he stayed in his inactive state. He was the recalled after being hit by an Emolga's Attract.

In BW036, it had a battle with Georgia's Beartic. At first, as usual, it was in its inactive state, but Beartic provoked it, and suddenly, it was battle ready. When it heard Georgia order Beartic to use Rock Smash, it brought back bad memories for it, and after the battle, it went back to drill mode. Iris revealed that she captured Excadrill as a Drilbur after saving it from falling into a chasm. They had beaten every trainer that crossed their way, and during a tournament, it evolved. When Excadrill was pitted against Drayden's Haxorus, it was easily defeated by Rock Smash. After the battle, it went into its inactive state and wouldn't listen to her. Cilan came to the conclusion that it disobeyed Iris because it was ashamed that it lost to Drayden's Haxorus and couldn't face her. It sensed that, during the battle with Haxorus, it couldn't win, but Iris didn't care. During the night, after hearing a heartfelt apology from Iris, Excadrill opened up and forgave her.

In BW044 he was used in the finals of the Don Battle tournament to battle Ash's Pikachu. After a tough battle, Excadrill managed to defeat Pikachu with a powerful Focus Blast.

Trivia

  • Similar to Ash's Charizard and Dawn's Mamoswine, Excadrill refuses to listen to Iris and only battles on his own terms.
    • Like Mamoswine, Excadrill is also part Ground-type.
    • Excadrill is the only one not to debut in its first form, that has been caught off-screen, and that isn't part of a three-stage evolutionary family.
    • All three of them are dual-typed Pokémon.
    • All three of them occasionally battle when they believe they have a worthy opponent.
    • Similarly, all three of them battled when angered.
