This Excadrill is a Ground/Steel-type Pokémon owned by Iris. It is the first Pokémon that was caught by her.

Personality[]

Excadrill while he was still a Drilbur, he was depicted as a bully and had a bad habit of stealing the food from other wild Pokémon. Like Ash's Buizel, he always won without taking defeat and the prime example is he defeated a younger Iris until she saved him from a deadly fall while being dangling in the cliff especially they enter the tournament.

When he evolved into an Excadrill, his behavior soon changes into an adaptable battler who is compassionate in his abilities and winning the battle but he then changed again when he was defeated by Drayden's Haxorus, he becomes extremely guilty and ashamed of himself. Ultimately concluding that Iris cared more about victory than she did about him, he closed himself in his idle state, refusing to listen to any of Iris' commands. Fortunately, he becomes active again after Iris apologizes for disregarding his feelings which it allows him to train with her again and became pleased with Iris when he finally overcame his loss whether he wins a fight or ended a battle in a draw.

As Drilbur[]

Excadrill, as a Drilbur, first met Iris as a child after tormenting some Patrat and stealing their food. She challenged him and after being defeated countless times, Iris finally managed to get the better of the Drilbur and got him tangled in some vines. Unfortunately, he was dangling over a cliff. Iris saved him from a deadly fall and the two began training together. Drilbur won all of his matches through one-hit KOs, never taking a hit in the process.

As Excadrill[]

Black & White series[]

They eventually entered a tournament, where he evolved into Excadrill while battling a trainer's Druddigon and won, earning Iris a streak of ninety-nine straight wins. Iris, looking to get her 100th win against a Dragon Master, challenged Drayden to a battle which he happily accepted. Excadrill put up a good fight against Drayden's powerful Haxorus, but he found himself taking hits for the first time. Haxorus soon knocked Excadrill out by using Rock Smash, and Excadrill, ashamed of having lost and thinking Iris no longer cared about his well-being, he closed himself off from her, refusing to obey any of Iris' orders.

He was later introduced to Ash and Cilan in The Bloom Is On Axew! when Iris' Axew got stuck in the horns of a wild Scolipede, and both Cilan's Pansage and Ash's Snivy tried and failed to stop it. Reluctantly, Iris sent out Excadrill to help. But as soon as he came out, he stayed in his inactive state and refused to do anything. After Iris rescued Axew herself, Excadrill came out of his inactive state and attacked Scolipede after Scolipede inadvertently kicked him. He easily defeated it and sent it flying off into the horizon. Excadrill cried out in victory before going back into his inactive state.

Iris sent out Excadrill to help out in Dancing With the Ducklett Trio! when Ash and Pikachu went missing after falling down a hole. However, Excadrill refused to help, remaining inactive and forcing Iris to recall him. He appeared again for a short time in Emolga the Irresistible to fend off a swarm of Swoobat, but as usual he just remained idle. He then fell for Iris Emolga's Attract and was returned to his Poké Ball. Then in the next episode he was brought out by Emolga's Volt Switch, but still did nothing.

In Iris and Excadrill Against the Dragon Buster!, after Axew was knocked out by Georgia's Beartic, Excadrill was sent out to battle. After intentionally being knocked into a tree, Excadrill came out of his stasis and battled the Freezing Pokémon. He was knocked out by Rock Smash again the second time and returned to his idle state of being curled up. As Iris explains the situation to her friends, Cilan helps her realize that Excadrill's disobedience stemmed from his lack of faith in her ability as a Trainer, rather than a hatred of losing like she had previously thought. Later that night, Excadrill listens to Iris as she brought up the days when they were training for the tournament back at the Village of Dragons. However, after hearing Iris, who realized why he shunned her out, tearfully apologize for her past actions, Excadrill was touched as he remembers her attempts to cheer him up and didn't give up on beating back in their younger days. Having forgiven Iris, Excadrill wandered off and managed to learn how to use Focus Blast, but could not perform it properly. However, Excadrill was surprised that Iris, who saw him leave, arrived then trained with him and together they managed to perfect the attack. With his confidence in his Trainer restored, Excadrill re-challenged Beartic, which resulted in a draw. Despite tying, Excadrill was still pleased with the results, embracing his Trainer in a hug.

Iris used Excadrill in the final round of the Club Battle in The Club Battle Finale: A Heroes Outcome! in her battle against Ash. He went up against Ash's Pikachu, and after a long battle, managed to beat the Electric Mouse Pokémon, allowing Iris to win the tournament. At the end Pikachu got hit into the wall and got defeated by Excadrill's Focus Blast.

In Battle For The Underground!, he was let out of his Poké Ball by Snivy when she found it amongst those that Team Rocket trio had stolen from the Nimbasa Pokémon center, to free Pikachu and Axew from their cages with Metal Claw. He later helped fight off Dr. Zager's helicopter, while the other Pokémon worked out an escape.

In Stopping the Rage of Legends! Part 1, Excadrill battled Tornadus and Thundurus in an attempt to stop their rampage. He landed a hit on the legendary Pokémon by combining his Drill Run with Snivy's Leaf Storm, but was eventually defeated by the powerful opponents.

In Drayden Versus Iris: Past, Present, and Future!, Excadrill battled Drayden for the second time against his powerful Haxous, but got knocked out along with Haxorus.

Journeys series[]

In Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series at the end of Pride of a Champion!, Excadrill was released by Iris to battle Cynthia's Gastrodon in the eliminations of Masters 8. He was able to knock Gastrodon out with a successful Horn Drill but was subsequently knocked out by Milotic's Hydro Pump.

Trivia[]

  • Similar to Ash's Charizard and Dawn's Mamoswine, Excadrill refused to listen to Iris out of a lack of faith in his Trainer and only battles on his own terms.
    • Like Mamoswine, Excadrill is also part Ground-type.
    • Excadrill is the only one not to debut in its first form, that has been caught off-screen, and that isn't part of a three-stage evolutionary family.
    • All three of them are dual-typed Pokémon.
    • All three of them occasionally battle when they believe they have a worthy opponent.
    • Similarly, all three of them battled when angered.
  • Excadrill is the first Ground-type Pokémon to be captured by Iris, the second being Gible.
