This Dragonite is a Dragon/Flying-type Pseudo-Legendary Pokémon owned by Iris. It is the fourth Pokémon that she obtained.

Personality

Compared to other Dragonite, who are generally considered selfless and compassionate Pokémon unless enraged otherwise, he is extremely aggressive, being brash and headstrong as he looks for strong opponents to battle, even if they're stronger than him. He often has an angered expression to him, which also results in his pupils being significantly smaller.

Despite his rough attitude, he has a soft spot for Iris as he allowed himself to be captured by her. However like Ash's Charizard before him, he initially disobeyed Iris' commands until he understood her feelings as the Trainer and started obeying her in return. Despite obeying Iris' commands however, Dragonite still kept his hostile nature even outside of battles as he immediately picked a fight with a wild Haxorus in "A Village Homecoming!".

He also has a fierce rivalry with Ash's Charizard when they first met in "The Fires of a Red-Hot Reunion!" as both Pokémon tested their strength when they battled until they settled their differences. Dragonite also exhibits fair play during gym battles when he elected not to use aerial attacks against Pokémon that could not fly such as Drayden's Druddigon. Although, he never does this after the battle which resulted in a loss.

In "A Pokémon of a Different Color", Dragonite develops a strong rivalry with Clair's Dragonite during their first encounter after he accidentally smashed one her flowers, causing her to get mad. They are later seen bickering with each other, and when they were forced to team up to push an obstacle out of the way, they even knocked Charizard back twice when he tried to stop them from fighting until they were returned to their Trainer's Poké Balls due to being hurt by sound waves.

In "Pokémon Journeys", Dragonite, upon seeing Ash's Dragonite, he immediately throws a hostile glare towards her, causing her to be intimidated from the start as she had never seen such aggression from her own kind before.

Dragonite first appeared in "Iris and the Rogue Dragonite!", where it was fighting with a Hydreigon in Undella Town. It was injured in the battle against Hydreigon and caused a blackout when it crashed into a power station. Due to Dragonite's history of causing trouble in the town, Officer Jenny thought it purposely attacked the power plant and began pursuing it along with several trainers. Iris refused to believe that Dragonite caused the blackout and used her ability to read Dragonite's heart, discovering the truth that Dragonite was defending a Pidove flock from a wild Hydreigon and the blackout was indeed an accident. After it was cleared of all accusations, Dragonite allowed Iris to capture it, deciding that it wants to travel with her.

Iris used it in the Pokémon World Tournament in "Jostling for the Junior Cup!" against Georgia's Beartic. It started disobeying Iris during its battle with Georgia's Beartic, but it was made obvious that it is a skilled battler, easily shrugging off two Ice Beam attacks and a Blizzard despite the type disadvantages and defeating Beartic with a single Thunder Punch.

Dragonite was used again in "Battling Authority Once Again!" against Dawn's Mamoswine. While it obeyed Iris' first command to dodge, it quickly went back to ignoring Iris by enduring Ice Shard and when Mamoswine used Take Down, Dragonite grabbed its tusks and threw the Twin Tusk Pokémon to the ground. Just as Dragonite's arms we're about to freeze from Ice Fang, it flew up and used Dragon Rush to knock out Mamoswine, pushing Iris into the semi-finals.

Dragonite was used in "Ash, Iris and Trip: Then There Were Three!" against Ash's Krokorok. Dragonite, like in its previous battles, quickly took the lead. For a while, it seemed as though Iris and Dragonite were finally working together, as he listened to all of Iris’ commands. However, when Krokorok evolved into Krookodile and attacked with its newly learned Dragon Claw, Dragonite went berserk, completely ignoring Iris' pleas to calm down and throwing random attacks all over the stadium. After allowing himself to be bitten by Krookodile's Crunch, Dragonite tried to end the match with Dragon Rush. However, its poor timing gave Krookodile enough time to dodge with Dig and follow up with a Stone Edge, knocking Iris out of the tournament. Cynthia later revealed to Iris that the reason why Dragonite was being disobedient is because he didn't have complete trust in her just yet. He was just captured by her and still needed time to warm up to her.

Dragonite was sent into battle in "Unova's Survival Crisis!" to stop Tornadus, Thundurus and Landorus while in their Therian Forms along with Cynthia's Garchomp, Ash's Pikachu, Ash's Unfezant, Ridley's Golurk and Cilan's Pansage, but they're not the kind of Pokémon Dragonite can beat as Landorus used Stone Edge to take it down. Just as Thundurus was about to use Shock Wave to finish him, Iris tried to protect him but Ash's Pikachu protected Iris in her stead to absorb all of its power from Thundurus. Now realizing how much she cares about him, Dragonite fully obeyed Iris from then on, with Iris promising that whenever he got into trouble like this, she would always protect him as it gets back in the fight to stop Team Rocket from conquering Unova.

Dragonite was later sent out to introduce himself to the Elder of the Dragon Village. However, it picked a fight with a nearby Haxorus until the Elder stopped them. Dragonite was also used to track down and corner a newly evolved Hydreigon that was rampaging across the village, with the help from Emolga.

Dragonite was later used in a battle against Drayden's Druddigon. But despite its best efforts and brute strength and power, he lost the match.

Dragonite was sent out to be introduced to Ash's Charizard, and immediately developed a fiery rivalry towards him. They had a battle but Dragonite was no match for the far superior Charizard, and it was called off by N, after Dragonite had injured its arm and both finally set their differences.

Dragonite was later sent out to stop a Trainer's Haxorus from rampaging in a nearby city. But while doing so, he discovered that it was being controlled by Colress. Colress then used the machine on Dragonite and it too went on a rampage. N tried to stop them but ended up getting himself injured from the attacks of the brainwashed Pokémon. Charizard managed to block most of Dragonite's attacks and made Aldith's Liepard's Shadow Ball hurl straight to the machine, breaking it, and freeing both Dragonite and Haxorus from its control. After that, Iris recalled Dragonite back into its Poké Ball.

Dragonite later teamed up with Cilan's Crustle during a battle against Team Plasma. Both of them managed to stall them until Colress turned his machine on both of them. Iris somehow saved his life by recalling him back into his Poké Ball while Cilan did the same thing with his Crustle. Dragonite was later called out once again to help both Krookodile and Crustle trap Colress, Ghetsis, Aldith, and Barret in a rock and ice barrier so they couldn't escape and give Looker a chance to arrest them.

Dragonite was later called out to help look for Clair's Dragonite along with Ash's Charizard. Once he found her, he glares at Clair's Dragonite for making her Trainer worry. After she saw that he had trampled on some of her flowers, she angrily tackled him causing both to have a strong argument and rivalry. Clair and Iris arrived and tried to calm them down. Even Charizard does its best to break the two up, but both Dragonite angrily push him away until Clair revealed that Dragonite carelessly stepped on one of the flowers and made Clair's Dragonite angry with him. Cilan notices both of there respective genders as male and female and believes their arguments are just part of their affection, much to both Clair and Iris' disappointment. The two Dragonite keep on arguing and even attacked Charizard twice when he tried to keep the peace between them until they found the doorway to the cave were a shiny Druddigon lives. Both of them worked together and successfully opened it. Both Iris' and Clair's Dragonite were eventually recalled back by both their Trainers due to the soundwaves created by Team Rocket affecting them.

Dragonite was later used in a battle against Clair's Druddigon when Iris was in Blackthorn City. During the battle, he briefly reverted to his disobedient personality and attacked Druddigon without listening to Iris' commands. Iris somehow managed to look into his heart and she realized that he was frustrated by the fact that his attacks weren't working well on Druddigon who is also a Dragon-type like himself. Iris told him that she understands his frustration and reminds him that he is not the only one who is battling. She told him that she wanted to connect her heart with his and will always be together. Dragonite finally understood her and continues the battle through Iris' commands. Although Dragonite managed to deal a huge amount of damage to Druddigon with Dragon Rush and Ice Beam, Druddigon defeated him with a super-strong Dragon Rage. But despite his loss, Iris told him that he did a fantastic job and she felt more connected to him than before which made him feel better. Iris then called him back into his Poké Ball for a good long rest.

Journeys series

Dragonite was later used in Iris' World Coronation Series battle against Ash. Dragonite was shown to have become more obedient to Iris' commands and was able to easily fight against Ash's own Dragonite, nearly taking her out during their first encounter. However, despite being strong, he was quickly defeated by Ash's Dracovish using Ice Fang, causing Dragonite to instantly freeze and faint.

He was later sent as Iris' second Pokémon in her Masters 8 match against Cynthia's Milotic, after it knocked Excadrill out. Despite landing some successful Thunder Punches, he was unprepared for Milotic's Disarming Voice, before it moved in and began to squeeze hard enough that he was deemed unable to battle after a brief struggle.

• Dragonite is the first fully evolved Pseudo-Legendary Pokémon to be owned by a main character.
• Dragonite is the first Pokémon not native to Unova but (to Kanto) to be owned by a main character in the Best Wishes series.
• Dragonite's eyes strangely resemble the Dragonite's eyes in "Great Bowls of Fire" when it went on a rampage.
• Throughout the Black & White series, there was a recurring animation error where Dragonite's antennae would briefly be the same orange color as his scales whenever he was released from his Poké Ball.
• Like Ash's Buizel, Dragonite has its own unique style, its own battle rhythm.
